I will use Joe Phillipi as an example. Here was an all-state goalie from Hill-Murray that was exciting, athletic, quick AND had the numbers to be D1 worthy, but his lack of size didn't allow him to get to the next level. Last I saw, he was in Alaska, and wasn't getting much ice time. Things may have changed, but I haven't followed up on him.
FYI -- Joe Phillipi has been in Omaha/USHL for the past month and sports a 4-0 record so far....

He's listed at 6', must have grown 6 inches. he's still 4-0 and played against teams that have been outscored by 20-30%, cept GrB but the shots on goal in all games are tilted dramatically in Omaha's favor. Wish him well but hasn't scene much real action this year in those 4 games.

agreed, but average team? south st.paul has a lot of talent. easily a state contender, that being said i still think breck is gonna dominate class A this year.

I don't see South St. Paul as a state contender.

how not? Have you seen them play at all? They were ranked top 10 all year last year and will easily be that good this year.

Adam Wilcox, he is a superb athlete and you can't argue a kid who has played in big games since he was a freshman.

I believe Gothberg will be putting on a SIOUX sweater (not sure what year) and Graves is a junior this year; I am unaware of any current committments.

Is he really that good? I looked at his stats and he had a .883 save% and a 2.73 GAA. I don't consider stats to be much of a measuring stick for talent but Andrew Ford looks better with his save% at .940 and GAA at 1.41. So I must be missing something here.

Goalie challenge- Lets put one of these kids in the WCHA.

I would really like anyone to dominate the WHCA level of play. Most of us live and die watching the WCHA. I would love the Gopher program to get a stud goalie like the Denver/North Dokota programs get.

Goalie is the most important position on any team.

The HS Elite League levels the competitive landscape. The league arguably features the play of the best of the best. Pressure is on with college and pro scouts in the stands. If my theory holds true, Elite League stats should tell a solid story. In that case, I give my nod to Meyers.

2012. He will play two years of Juniors. If you're wondering why 2 years of Jrs, it's because Eidsness is only a So. and Dell is a Fr. Also, Gothberg is a very young Senior.

Lance Bortot from irondale. he has a terrible team but himself has probably the best agility and speed that ive ever seen.

Agreed, yes, lance is very good, great athletic ability and needs it on that team. However, no matter how good he plays scouts don't nec. like pure athleticism, they like solid goalies that don't move much and can win big games, or tie like Meyers did with Hill the other night. Lucia explained his bias, he likes a goalie that doesn't HAVE to make big saves, of course he isn't a goalie, and I'm sure he would have liked to see Kangas make a few "big" saves this year. (Becareful what you wish for Donnie, you have the goalie you need on a good team, but not the one you need on a mediocre team.)

Unfortunately for Lance he will never win a big one or will never be on FSN and isn't getting hyped like the less than average goalies (see HM goalie) with media darlings and PR people.

Good news is the Junior teams (probably NA) just want to win and will most likely give him a good opportunity and he can take it from there but he'll need to prove good technique to reach d1.

Gothberg could be picked in the first 3 rounds during this years draft, would he really play two years in the USHL, then go play for ND for what, one, maybe two years? ND would want him as soon as they can get him....right?

I agree after seeing this goaltender play against a top team in the state he has alot of athletic ability but will also never get looks because of his atrocious team. Hopefully for his sake he will tryout for some nahl teams and do some camps this summer to get some recognition.

Gothberg is good but I don't think he's a third round pick or better. Mike Lee was better than him and he was picked at the end of the third. It's hard for goalies to get picked that early.
