Hey folks, we are looking for teams for an old fashion outdoor hockey tournament. Twig Hockey Association has been having their tournament since the 1960's. Usually draw 10 to 12 teams. This is the real deal, not your event set up for hockey day minnesota. Over the years, talking to some of the parents of teams that have played, there kids havent played outside. Twig is known for having great ice and a nice facility. Twig is located just outside of Duluth. If your interested here' a link for ya. http://www.twighockey.org/tourneys/tourneys.asp

play Twig
I agree Twig is a great place to play. The ice is excellent. The parents are great. It is a super small town vibe. Their warming shack and concessions is the Best I have ever seen for an outdoor rink. When my kid played a tournament there they had outdoor grilling which was very delicious.

Thanks
thanks for the nice comments, it is alot of fun isnt it. I just love the outdoor game. Matter of fact i just got done reffing a game out there ohhh what a night. The ice is already in great shape. We had a Team from Colorado play a few years back. The moms where in their high heels and furs.....not good Twig hockey apparell. The dads where amazed of the rinks and hung out in the Zamboni shack for a few beers after the game. Wish everyone could experience the good ole days....Its still happening in Twig. Theres still some outdoor rinks going but seem to be falling by the wayside.

Another Beautiful Hockey Night
Well im quite a lucky guy, got to ref another game on a perfect night. Temps about 15 degrees and no wind. I was almost thinking about sticking my tounge on the goal post. [story about that] you know guys it just doesnt get any better. I hung out at the rink for awhile, and you know you just dont get that real hockey feeling driving to the indoor rink and play or practice then pack up and go home. These kids play their game then its right back to the rink and play again. They dont need me to call offsides, penalties or icing. There learning more out there with their friends than they did in the game they just played.....ahhhhh such a beautiful thing. If you want to have your kids get this experience , get in the tournament, not many left of this sort. your kids deserve it.
