Fair Enough, I honestly didn't see that game. Considering he had a 1.58 GAA, it seems like it was a rough one, and he'll be playing like he has something to prove on tuesday.

I see Russell has 2.00 GAA so far in two games, with Breck giving up 3 goals vs. Red Wing???

I'm going against the polls and picking STA. Both teams are loaded with talent but the edge goes to Cadets as they have more to gain by winning this game and their coaching will prove as it did last year to be superior. The Vannelli's are clearly at the top of their game and will likely find a way to win this one.

This one could easily go either way. Home ice may be the only advantage for the Mustangs otherwise weve got two very even teams.

St thomas let up a weak shorty in the 3rd but altrichter pulled it together in the late stages of the 3rd. The cadets had much better depth and skill. Breck had a slight edge in goaltending though

Putting up 56 shots on the defending champs is a good feat, but only getting 4 in and letting in 3 on 26 shots both are not good. Were the goals fast 2 on 1s or was Alritcher off tonight?

He's had more game like this than not. He's never been as good as the hype or expectations of him. Average at best, and quite often not average.

But WOW, STA surprises me, and i guess Breck did too, i would have guessed other way around. Too bad i had to watch a mediocre HM game, but i did get to see a truly good goalie today. Meyers is the real deal, he was good last year, and better this year.

Breck capitalized on there chances when they had them. But they only had a few good chances and the third goal through Alrichter was a weak one on the ice. Overall the puck was in the Breck zone a large majority of the game and the goalie played well. If this had been STA third game like it was Breck's I would imagine a few more corners would have been picked. Next Saturday at Minnetonka should be a GREAT game.

Altricher also made some big saves. All three goals came off breakdowns or mistakes. Those mistakes and some others by the cadets is what gave Breck thier few scoring chances, though seeing it was thier first game I'll cut them some slack. Knowing the coaching staff and players, expect that to change.

This game was so one sided, it was clear to everyone that Breck just could not keep up with STA, which is why Breck had so many penilites. This game could have been a 9-0 game, had it not been for the play of Russell. Yet STA was not even close to playing thier best hockey, which is still to come. I'd say STA has a big block, turbo charged V8, but they where only running on 4 cylinders tonight and they are in need of a tune up

My assessment of the game is;

The Cadets cleary deserved to win this game even though with 4:00 to go it looked like the Mustangs were going to steal it being up 3-2. What no one here has mentioned is that the penalties were 9-3 in favor of STA which led to the enormous shot disparity. STA had 7 power play chances to Breck's one. While a couple of them were clearly deserved I think it is safe to say that the calls were almost exclusivley going the Cadets way. The biggest penalty ultimatley decided the outcome when Borer was called for a trip as he was going for the puck in the offensive zone a minute into overtime. That was simply a call that never should have been made in that circumstance. The offical had a chance for a make up call on the next shift when it appeared that Fulton was interfered with while going for the puck.

The story in my eyes here was;

1. A very entertaining game between two very good teams
2. Penalties played a major role in this game
3. Russell proved that he was the best netminder on the ice and deserving of all of the attention he has been getting
4. Both teams are very similar in that they have 4 elite players and a team full of great talent.
5. The STA coaches seemed to have their squad a bit more focused, motivated and ready to play.

Let's hope for a rematch in March.

It will be interesting how the Cadets do against Minnetonka. Skippers beware, if they play as well as they did last night, I think an upset could very well be the outcome.

I disagree with what you said about the penalty that was called in OT. Borer desearved that call. he clearly hacked the sta defenceman. it was a very dangerous play. i agree that it was bad timing for breck, but a penalty that had to be called
