Why do you hate this kid so much? Yes he tends to cherry pick and doesn't play in a hard conference but 101 points is nothing to scoff at. Just cause your kid can't do that doesn't mean you need to find a way to bash Benik in every single topic or start one.Goldy Gopher wrote:http://www.startribune.com/sports/preps ... c:_Yyc:aUU

It's because people like you think he's the next Wayne Gretzky and he's just flat out not. Is he an above average HS hockey player? Yes. Is the amount of points he puts up very impressive? Yes. Will he be a good player at the next level? Time will tell but I just don't see how anyone that has seen him play thinks he has a realistic shot to be good.PowerForward25 wrote:Why do you hate this kid so much? I never said he was the next Gretzky. I'm just sick of you always posting your opinion on him. We get it. You think Benik is overrated. Get over it.Goldy Gopher wrote:It's because people like you think he's the next Wayne Gretzky and he's just flat out not. Is he an above average HS hockey player? Yes. I like hearing people's opinion. I'm just sick of you bashing a kid every chance you get. When you said Benik was overrated the first time, i got it. This is the umpteenth time you have said something about him. Do you have an opinion about anything else other than benik?Goldy Gopher wrote:You're in the wrong place if you don't want to hear people's opinions.PowerForward25 wrote:I never said he was the next Gretzky. Benik Blinders
Goldy:
Not sure what you're smokin' rodent. They said the same thing of Johnny Pohl when he put up eye popping numbers at Red Wing: Can't skate, can't play, blah, blah, blah. I'm pretty sure he became a GREAT player in college and an NHL'er to boot
Lucia keeps missing out on the talent in MN. (Wehr's, common man. Fisher, he's a bust). If you're gonna sign players from teams like Holy Angels that play basically no one (like St. Francis) who put up big #'s (You know who I'm talkin'out right?), why not take a chance on the top scorer in MN?
BTW - I'm U of M graduate and a season ticket holder for 15+ years and the biggest Gopher rube around....

If you look through my 2100 posts and look at the 2075 that aren't about Benik you'll find plenty of other opinions.PowerForward25 wrote:I like hearing people's opinion. Problem is, you see, Pohl went to the Gophers. Benik isn't. Otherwise, Goldy would be singing his praises.blueblood wrote:Goldy:

Re: Benik Blinders
The fact of the matter is, most kids that sign as HS Jr's are risks. Benik is no different. I've never seen him play, but it's curious to me why he would play in that lower JR. League instead of Elite...I hope the best for the kid, i love seeing non-traditional hockey areas produce division 1 talent.blueblood wrote:Goldy:

Signing as a Junior
If "most" players who sign (should read "commit") as juniors are risks, then most of the gopher recruits for next 2 seasons fall into that category, also, not just Benik.
How do you take Bjugstad over Rau??????????? Rau showed him up at state last year and he the focal point this year on the top line with Rogge and Erickson. Anyone who saw him totally take over the Blaine game at state last year would agree with me. Just because he is a little guy doesn't mean he isn't one of the best.

The problem is he comes from a Non-Traditional talent developing team. The fact he does not play defense, he plays in a very weak conference and he is couldn't make anything but MNJHL. I would also agree it is way too early to crown him Mr Hockey and Rookie of the year when and if he ever makes it to SCSU. The guys the Gophers are getting have played on the big stage Advanced 15, 16 and 17 even went further into those programs. Elite 1 ?? Where was he??
and east who was saying Pohl couldn't skate? Red Wing routinely played tougher competition when Pohl was around and I believe they were regulars at State. What has this kid done besides pad his own stats??

Bjugstad is better than Rau, no question. He has been the focal point of a Blaine team that is a pretty good team, but Bjugstad took them to the next level. He is more than likely going to be a first rounder when the time comes.
You also may forget, but Rau played in front of a certain Mr. Leddy, kinda makes things easier.
I'm not insulting Rau either, he is very good, just not Bjugstad good.
Bjugstad doesn't have the ability to take over a game like Rau does. He showed that against Blaine as he has for the last two years (he scored over 100 goals in his last year of Bantams). Also I'm not talking pro potential here either. Obviously Bjugstad is gonna be taken higher with a 6'5" frame compared to 5'8" or 5'9" for Rau, but as a high school player Rau is simply more lethal and can take over an entire game. As for playing in front of Leddy, sure that helps, but that was his only year ever playing with Leddy vs. playing with the 15 juniors on this winter's squad that he has been playing with his whole life, so I don't see much of a drop off happening due to Leddy's loss as he is extremely comfortable with this group.scoreboard33 wrote:I saw the game and couldn't think you are more wrong.HockeyMN1 wrote:How do you take Bjugstad over Rau??????????? as I said in my last post, I'm not talking about pro potential, just productivity at the high school level. Rau wins there even though bugjstad has a brighter future in the NCAA and pros because of his size.ilivegreen60 wrote:where is Rau on the draft list?? where is bujgstad? first round? oh just checkin.
