EP vs Wayzata for the title at 4:15, should be a good one.

5-4 Wayzata over EP in OT

Interesting game, officiating was bad both ways (no surprise in D6), EP had a player thrown out and finished with 2 or 3 consecutive PP to end the game. Game was 4-1 mid way through the 3rd and EP rallied to tie it before Wayzata bagged the game winner a few minutes into OT. Very entertaining game, wouldn't be surprised to see these teams meet later on down the road

Wow....considering all things EP hockey you had to insult the players that played what sounded like a great game to kick the officials under the bus...Stick with the older child at the B level, the younger one will be just fine...

I didn't see that particular game, but I liked the D6 officials. Yes, I am a mom and it was nice to know that the kids were going to go out there and not get maimed. I have only saw a few players hurt by a clean hit, and usually it's a broken arm from a fall. The majority of injuries I have witnessed have come on bad hits; hits from behind, head contact, trips from behind and sticks under the pads--the type of things that get called in D6 but not in some other districts. you can say one thing--there aren't a lot of lazy refs in D6, they may control the game but at least you know the kids aren't in charge. Kids are going to make mistakes, but they make a lot less of them when there are consequences. My Pee Wee is in a D6 tournament in a few weeks and I can't wait to relax in the stands and see a hockey game.

Sorry Hip, it probably doesn't help your cause to have a Mom on your side. There's a difference between hard and fast hockey and thuggery. Play the game, I for one am tired of seeing teams with three kids not dressing on their benches.

I always laugh at these ref discussions. It's the old focus on things you control and the reffing isn't one of them. I see it primarily as a coaching issue. If a kid gets a penalty sit em as they're hurting the team. Although, tired and lazy kids do dumb things because it's easier to hit (trip, hook, slash) than to chase.

I've divided penalties into three catagories.

1. Accidental hard working penalty. Back checking like crazy and accidentally get your stick tangled in the opponents skates for a trip. Accidental.

2. Dumb penalty. Retaliation, a punch to the face, a purposeful slash or trip. Dumb.

3. A new one, not worth the risk. This is a big category but this is the one the players, and coaches, need to learn because all penalties hurt the team. If the refs are calling hits to the head, don't do it. If the refs are calling tapping a player with your stick, on a back check, a hook or slash, don't do it. Not worth the risk.

The game is changing and it's about speed and controlling the puck. Many of the top teams barely hit. You have to be careful hitting them, and missing, because you'll find yourself behind the play and you've granted them an odd man rush.

You can't beat a good team shorthanded. Period. So to me that means zero penalties has to be the goal.

Hip - I don't have any kids, so not sure who you think I am.

While I agree that kids should "not get maimed" while playing, hitting is still a part of the game and players should not get pennalized for performing a legal hit. I'm not taking anything away from the effort or performance of both teams, I'm merely pointing out my frustration with the inconsistancy of the officiating (keep in mind that this is coming from an on ice official).

My issue is mainly with the "head contact" penalty that was added a few years back, it's not necessary. Glove to the head = roughing, stick to the head = high stick, elbow to the head = elbowing, shoulder making contact with the head is one kid being taller than the other kid, not a penalty.

Lastly, not a parting shot at D6 refs, they probably are not "lazy" as DMom put it, but unfortunately a majority are overweight and struggle to keep up with the pace of the game. Many struggle to get into the correct position to make a call.

I agree with the categories:

- Accidental
- Dumb (either dumb timing, intent to injure, retaliation, etc)

But not worth the risk because a ref has decided to take liberty with his/her calls is unfortunate, but probably a reality.

Calling the game for speed and skill is great, but knocking people off the puck and holding them accountable to keep their head up (therefore making them use skill) is a critical piece of the game.

Unfortunately to many refs (and very prominent in D6) are when in doubt blowing the whistle vs when in doubt letting the game have flow.

The side of PC is not good for the game.
