Hill Murray hosts Burnsville this Saturday at Aldrich, 7pm. Any predictions for this opening match up?

You can bet I will be at Aldrich this Saturday and anything less than a three point win for my Pioneers will be quite a disapointment.

Goalie for Hill, Munson is out for the game tomorrow. JV tender John Dugas will be taking his place. Which implies that Shaughnessy is in net, but... we already knew that.

I'll take Hill 4-1.

Burnsville lost May, Pearson, Kes and King a combined 78 goals and 106 assists. I don't think they can make up for that this year.

After 2, Hill leads 3-0. Goals scored by Faust, Cotroneo, and Bahe. All on the powerplay.

Burnsville goal. PP. HM tries to clear it, hits the ref in the back. Blaze get it and score.

I was at first two periods. Hill seemed unenthused, and let Burnsville skate with them until Hill captialized on a 5-3 power play, and then followed right back a short time later on the PP, and then it was total control by Hill from that point out.

... and let me add that Hill has a budding star on JV in 9th grader Luke Voltin who had the hat trick 3 minutes into the second period, and also added two assists. 5' 11" 170 pounder that did basically what he wanted to on the ice.

Burnsville really hurt themselves with penalties in the 2nd. They had a 0 - 0 tie going into the period but gave up a a 5-3 pp followed immediately by another score on the 5-4. They played most of the 2nd with someone in the box but battled back in the 3rd to get two before giving up the empty netter at the end.

Not a bad first game of the season for either club. Hill looked very smooth on the pp and the Burnsville goalie looked good in net. If Burnsville can learn to stay out of the box they will be tough to beat.

I actually thought bville was a little bit better club than HM, skating sstride for stride, and even outshooting them until the 5 on 3.... Then it became a battle.

I would agree with goldfishdude that Burnsville was more than holding its own until the 5 on 3. There were way too many penalties on both teams. Very little of the game was played 5 on 5. The high school league has made calling contact to the head a point of emphasis this year and there were probably half a dozen penalties called for this infraction. I hope referees back off on this call a bit. If a 6-3 player hits a 5-10 player, there is going to be some contact to the head. I also thought Shaugnessy made some nice saves for Hill in he third period. If he plays well in goal, Hill could be very tough this year.

Congrats on the nice "W" last night Pioneers....nice way to start the season.

I thought the Refs called the game way too tight. It was not a chippy game at all, but I suspect, they were instructed to show the points of emphasis for the season early to set the tone. It just didn't allow for any flow to the game.

I thought Burnsville was the better team after 1. They seemed to control the game and had the better chances. Hill seemed to settle down in the 2nd and took control with the 2 PP goals. Up 4-0 in the 3rd, HM seemed to put it cruise control and allowed Burnsville pop in a couple late.

Overall, a decent game with two pretty evenly matched clubs. Both teams will compete with anyone they play. Hill will have to out-work teams as the lack the top end skilled forwards. Castro & Johnson are too very good D and will provide some offense all year.

Nice start boys!

In what is likely to be one of the biggest upsets of the season, the Hill student section was over twice the size of Burnsville's and they actually cheered during the game.

Hey, there was around 300 Hill students there. Not bad, but room for improvement.

Next time we'll try standing up the whole game. What a concept.

Burnsville had around 50 students there which is much more than we would have gotten if we played in Burnsville. Overall, though, the atmosphere kinda sucked as the two student sections were at opposite sides of the rink and we couldn't hear a thing the Burnsville section was sayin.

Oh well, what can you expect. It was the first game of the season between two schools that couldn't give a crap about each other.

As a member of Hill's arch enemy to the north, I was happy to see Hill's student section make some effort.

However, they need to learn one basic rule:

The student section needs to be on the end of the opposing goalie twice to jump all over the team, and the goalie.

There would have been nothing better than to see the 300 students all get up at one time and just make a mad dash to the opposite end across from the Burnsville section.

Interesting you say that since White Bears student section is always at the opposing goalie only once in the game.
