Peewee A Hall of Fame Tournament 11/13-11/15

Thought I would do a little preview for some upcoming tournaments and put out the ole poll for everyone to take a stab.

This Friday kicks off the tournament season, as the annually run Hall of Fame tournament "officially" opens the hockey season for D10. What makes the Hall of Fame tournament unique is that it is not run by any association, but as a fund raiser for the hockey Hall of Fame.

The tournament will be an 8 team standard bracketed play tournament. Over the years it has tended to have a heavy flavor of D10 teams entered and this year is no different as five out of the eight teams come from D10 (Anoka, Blaine, Champlin Park, Princeton, and Rogers), rounding out the field is Buffalo (D5), Burnsville (D6), and Superior (D11).

Quarterfinal games are as follows:
Anoka vs Champlin Park
These two D10 rivals square off in the opening game, with D10 enforcing the 3 scrimmage rule it is a little difficult to get a read on either team. Both have yet to win and Anoka has yet to score this season. I expect a relatively low scoring game with Champlin Park coming out on top, but if Anoka starts finding the net things could be very different.

Buffalo vs Princeton
Usually at least one D5 team makes an appearance in the Hall of Fame and this year it is Buffalo. Coming off a recent victory over Champlin Park I give them the edge here against Princeton, as it is Princeton's first game of the year.

Rogers vs Burnsville
Burnsville appears to be the front runner for this tournament and it seems they finally have all of their players back. Rogers only game of note is a loss to Hopkins. Look for Burnsville to get healthy and organized in this first round victory.

Blaine vs Superior
It's been a rough start for Blaine this year, as they open the tourney on their home rink without a victory yet this season, their struggles seemed to be on both ends scoring little (just about a goal per game) and giving up a few more than average (almost 6 goals allowed per game). Superior comes to town looking to win some games, as a team that gives up post season play in their home state in order to play a heavy Minnesota schedule, tournaments are their playoffs, especially the out of town ones. Look for superior to find the back of the net more than Blaine.


Semifinals:
Champlin Park vs Buffalo - Buffalo repeats previous victory and moves on to championship.

Burnsville vs Superior - D6 proved in Duluth the ability to handle D11 teams and this should be no different.

Championship:
Burnsville vs Buffalo - Burnsville should be hitting their groove by this point and their depth should be too much for Buffalo to handle all game.

One small correction to your post. Blaine is not winless. Blaine beat D10 rival Anoka in a scrimmage.

Anoka over Buffalo in shootout. Anoka scored with 4 seconds in 3rd to tie game 4-4. Buffalo dominated in 4 on 4 over time but failed to score. Shoot out score 2-1 in favor of Anoka.

I saw the Buffalo/Anoka game. Buffalo has a beef because the score keeper never started the clock. When the Anoka kid took a shot from the left point along the boards on net, I looked at the clock. It hadn't been started. It still was at 9 seconds, the time when the ref dropped the puck for a face-off in the Buffalo zone to the RIGHT of the goalie. The shot on net from the point created a scrum around the Buffalo net. When the puck when in, I looked at the clock and it had just started to count down from 9 sec to 8 sec. The timekeeper actually let the clock run after the whistle to get to the four seconds.

To me, the timekeeper mistake allowed Anoka to win.
