AAA Tryout Process

Post by Newbie Dad »

This Fall has been the first time that my son has tried out for a AAA team. We have made the rounds to a few of the tryouts over the past month (all North/West Metro based, 1998 year). What we keep hearing in most cases is that they want us to come back for more tryouts. Is this good, bad or neither.

My son is not a stud player, but he can hold his own. It seems to make sense that they would only offer spots right away to really stand out players and then wait until the very end to fill the rest of their roster. Is that basically how it works? If so, why not just want until the last round of tryouts to showup?

Thanks...

For '98's, unless it is a newly developed organization, the teams have been in place for a few years already. Typically they are trying to fill 2-3 spots that have become available for whatever reason.
If your son is being invited back, I would view it as positive and take advantage of the ice time (as most tryouts are free or very nominal fee.) Sometimes, especially at that age, the coaches are looking for kids who work hard, are dedicated and are coachable. Being a stud is a bonus - but sometimes not the key requirement the coaches are looking to fill. Good luck!
