I was just thinking that the Twin Cities could really use a 37th spring/fall AAA hockey club.......

How many AAA teams are there?

This has really become a joke over the past years. There are AAA teams that have players that play at the B and even C level players during the winter.

The concept of AAA is to have the best of the best compete - or at least that was the way it used to be.

I am waiting for the first AAAA Elite teams to surface to separate themselves from the other so called AAA teams.

I remember when Showcase rolled out their AAA league about 10 years or so ago and it was titled "Developmental AAA League". They just dropped the "Developmental" in the title and the chaos began.

But seriously, how many "AAA" teams exist?

How many are there? As many as over involved parents can fund.

Who cares how many AAA teams there are anyhow? As long as kids want to play summer hockey and you can find the coaches, players and parents to fill them so that all can play it should be good. The best part of adding teams is that it gives kids a chance to find a spot to play. We got to the state and looked around for some summer hockey opportunities for a couple of the boys (thinking maybe AAA teams) and were told that they don't even have tryouts for them because they use the same kids every year so they don't look at new ones. I am not saying my kids could make the team if allowed to tryout but not even being given a chance because they plan to use the same ones and not look at new ones is not optimal either.

As far as kids coming from B and C teams last year to AAA teams this year you never know who is gonna bloom when, why the kid was on a B team, and who is gonna skate through the growth spurts during the summer.

All of them cash the same size paychecks so let them play. At least they are not out on the streets breaking into cars and doing drugs.

Just a thought,

Ron

Why don't you sell some of those '96 Orange jerseys that no one is going to use anymore and that you are so fond of.

"AAA" is synonymous with summer hockey now. Everyone knows who the top teams are so no need to get all excited about your kids position on the totem pole.

I appreciate your input - I just feel that the proliferation of all the so called AAA teams have bastardized the true meaning of AAA.

When you speak to true AAA organizations around the country - they do understand who the legitimate AAA teams are so I do understand it and they just chuckle at what we call AAA. I just think that it is kind of funny how everyone has plays AAA and that is how the organizers can get their share of the parents checkbook. Believe me - I am in favor of having opportunities for everyone to play hockey in the off season if they want to - I just think that funny how everyone feels it has to be AAA hockey and not A, B, or even C.

I just remember seeing association Showcase, MASH, MIHL, etc... peewee and squirt teams beating AAA teams.

I will get off my soap box as I lived that life years ago with my kid/s and I ran my own independent AAA organizations. Just kind of fun to check in to see how the off season world has developed.

Also - I have no kids playing hockey - just a fan now.

Thanks!

Here is the deal with AAA hockey - it is not about quality of players or teams but rather it is about playing by birth year. That is the only objective distinction that qualifies a team to play in AAA tournaments.

It is not about limiting participation based upon athletic ability, location, if you are a C player but simply do I want my kid to play against kids born in the same birth year.

So for those that want to continue to beat the drum that AAA hockey is diluted due to kids participating that are "unqualified" due to talent need to get past it and accept AAA hockey for what it is - kids playing on teams made up of the same birth year.

Lastly, who cares how many AAA teams there are - everyone knows which are the top programs are...just consider performance and longevity and you will probably be right on the money.

How are parents "over involved" because their kids play some summer hockey?

We played summer hockey in the late 1970s and early 1980s in the "Metro" league. I attended fall clinics to get ready for the tryout season. I went to Ken Yackel hockey schools, camp in Brainerd, and spent days at BIG for Saterdalen/Osiecki school. In Pee Wees I was on an all-star type team that even went to Winnipeg. One dad ran a spring league for a few years so we could play even more games.

When I hear stories about summer hockey in Minnesota now it never seems any different than what we did as kids, and I'm 41.

What Minnesotans call "AAA" is really just club hockey as opposed to association in-season hockey. Many posters point this out above and on other threads. Is this team going to go head-to-head with Honeybaked or the St. Louis Junior Blues? No. That in no may tells me anyone is "over involved".

Get real.
Be kind. Rewind.

Note the name of the team. . . .maybe, just maybe, someone thought those kids who have faith (or are seeking) should have a place where they can explore multiple passions. . . hockey and Christ. . .they are not mutually exclusive, just ask Billy Butters and the Hockey Ministries gang. . .

OK, so just to be clear, you think it's okay that any kid can play spring/fall hockey just as long as they come up with a different name to identify who the real 'elite' players are. So you're complaints are strictly with nomenclature, and not protecting those kids who were identified as 'elite' as 7-year-olds and up until now were the only ones who were allowed to play on off-season teams, thus ensuring they stayed at the top developmentally.

I just wanted to be clear since you seem awfully ticked off to just be complaining about naming conventions.

Please spare us the part about stupid parents reliving their childhood by indulging and buying into the NHL dreams of their spoiled kids. Most kids who play spring/fall do so because they love hockey and that's what they'd rather be doing. They tried other sports (2 or 3), they tried playing the piano and guitar, they tried Boyscouts or Girlscouts, but they found they really only want to play hockey. They aren't addicted to video games and they don't hang around at the mall or on Facebook (they have real friends at the arena). The vast majority don't aspire to play in the NHL or even in D1, but they get proficient enough so they don't have self-esteem issues sending them into a funk as teenagers. Their parents don't have to go into hock buying jet-skis or ATVs or XBoxes or I-whatevers to indulge them--they're happy and at home in any arena lobby, locker room and especially on the ice.
I made a joke earlier about this latest AAA club moving to town since it does seem like we're reaching the saturation point, but it sounds like this one might be a little different by throwing a little Jesus into the mix. So more power to them and I hope they have success here.

As a Catholic and a Hockey dad I still see humor in that.. don't think the muslims would take that kindly if we started doing Mohammad humor on the hockey board. Jesus has a sense of humor maybe we all should.
