Not 100% sure, but from what I heard from a Coon Rapids parent a outsider landed the positionblueliner5 wrote:Coon Rapids has gone through a High School coaching transition in the past couple of years which will take some time for him to turn the program around. The JV coach may not be known to everyone due to the changes, but if it is the coach who I think it is the team will be better coached with this group of kids than years past. I am not saying they will win Districts, but the players will gain knowledge from this individual unlike the past. If, they brought back the coaching staff that took the Bantams to State years back, then yes they would be solid, but like Fire and Ice commented there are internal issues which indirectly ousted this coach out of coaching/board member position. The reason because his son open enrolled at a different high school. The 1 Board member that demanded him to vacant his coaching/board position for this reason 2 years later did the samething and is STILL on the Board. Thats one of the internal issues and its not only in our association, but this individual should be relieved of his position also. Good luck to the new A Bantam coach as he has a good and talented group of kidsFire and Ice wrote:Call me crazy but if he is going to make an impact I would guess everyone would know his name.
Too many internal issues at Coon Rapids.

Internal Issues
We all know there are internal issues no matter what city you live in. In response to the Coon Rapids situation, an outside coach for this group is truely whats best for these kids. If the board has found a coach that has some experience at this age level and can successfully concentrate on the players, these kids will be ok. The coaches that took the Bantams to state years ago were 2 dads whose kids deserved to play and a Dad that went along for the ride. He was removed from the board because he coached a group of young men from squirts on up, then yanks his kid before his second year of bantams because he felt his son was too good for the kids he was responsible for helping develop? Guess what, he put his name in the hat again for this group(3rd boy thru the program) and has recently been announced as an assistant for the another cities HS team?? Gee, i wonder where this son will go to HS next year, but yet he wants to coach in the Cr program again???
This example is why it is important to have outside coaches involved; it will be the only way these kids have a chance to succeed. If another parent coached this team, there would without a doubt be kids from this team playing HS and that would not do the kids any good. The kids get along and have a chance to be a decent team, but this group of parents will do everything in their power to watch this guy fail. It would be nice to see all the parents actually sit in the stands this year, enjoy their sons performances and support this outside coach. Time will tell.

I feel that having outside coaches coaching is a good thing. Some like myself have started as an assistant coach and worked my way up to being a head coach. I coach because I love the game not because I have a kid who plays hockey. Coaches are hard to come by I agree but a parent that wants to coach to get his kid on the team is the wrong kind of coach for any program. A non parent coach that wants to coach and has the right qualifications is the perfect candidate over a parent coach. Again this is my personal opinion.

I agree but if you feel this way you better be willing to start paying coaches. The time commitment has become quite substantial, if you want a qualified non-parent coach that is actually going to run a good program you have to compensate them for that. If you aren't willing to pay, than be happy that someones dad is willing to show up and work with your kids.BlaineJGA wrote:I feel that having outside coaches coaching is a good thing. I agree I got paid last year and the parents complained about a coach being paid for youth hockey. I looked at other associations this season just to see what was out there. I have not taken a coaching job but i am probably one of the few coaches that doesn't do it for the money or doesn't need money to coach. I have looked at an association that doesn't pay and one that paid a decent amount. The non paying association is a much more desirable one than the paying one because their does not to seem to be huge conflict. I also agree you get what you pay for.wannagototherink wrote:I agree but if you feel this way you better be willing to start paying coaches. Incorrect
Incorrect on the Duluth East Bantam A team, the bulk of those kids were second year players.

I think DE has 6 bantams coming back and I believe their B-1's won the State Tournament and I think they were almost all 1st years. Can anyone confirm that?northwoods oldtimer wrote:Incorrect on the Duluth East Bantam A team, the bulk of those kids were second year players.

Re: Incorrect
Ok, sorry if I had bad info. We were talking with some of the Duluth East Parents during our butt whipping in the Spirit of Duluth Tourney Championship game (they took us I believe 7-0) and I got the impression that they had a very young team.northwoods oldtimer wrote:Incorrect on the Duluth East Bantam A team, the bulk of those kids were second year players.

In addition to coaching JV, he also coached Irondale A Bantams.BlaineJGA wrote:Coon Rapids is getting a solid coach for the A bantams moving from a JV position to coach A bantams so they should be good to goFire and Ice wrote:Once again the same old will run the level

Fire and Ice I hope you are right as his challenge will be keeping this group of players focused. The core players of this team that advanced to Region play as A Peewees will be returning. He needs to keep practices at a high level teaching the players more than the basics to advance. This is what was missing from the coach during there A Peewee season. The team started out strong and began to fade as the season progressed. These players need intensity driven practices otherwise you will see a repeat of there A Peewee season. Unlike, other Dist. 10 associations [ex:Centennial, Elk River, Blaine] only a handful of players play or train for hockey in the off season which may come into play during the regular season. As far as I know there are probably 9 or 10 returning A Bantams and only 3 or 4 have seen ice time this Summer. Grant it not all players need to play hockey year round. Other sports provide skills to improve a better hockey player. No matter what all these kids are good athletes in the sports they play which hopefully will reflect on the ice this winterFire and Ice wrote:Coon Rapids coach has a stellar resume. CNF it is getting to be that time again!
I like how everybody forgets about St. Cloud. Two years ago as Pee Wees didn't they finish 2nd or 3rd in district play and then win the district playoffs? I don't think Blaine will be much of a factor this year with 2 of their top players moving up to play high school. St. Cloud will have both of their goalies that played on that team in Pee Wees which will be a huge factor. I think distrct 10 bantams will be a dog fight till the end.

OMG had a good Bantam A squad last year but I was under the impression they had lost most of their top end talent. Is there a strong PeeWee pool filling the gap or is this predicition just based on the basis of large associations having strength every year.Chuck Norris Fan wrote:I am getting the itch guys! 2 months from games getting started.
