[quote="joehockey"]Great job by the CDN's hosting in WPG this weekend - great hockey and lots of examples of in any given game......

The games I saw this past weekend ranged from choppy to amazing. Very entertaining and lots of talented girls that's for sure.
With the standing set are they going to go with two Divisions for the final weekend? With so many teams it would make sense to go with two divisions to get better parity in the games?
I agree great job all around by the organizers.

There was a League meeting on Saturday afternoon and discussion was held regarding a single play down in Platinum with 13 teams (win go right - lose go left) and Gold (U14). Second discussion was create pool play and then name a Platinum, Titanium and Gold playoff and name three division winners. No official details have been released though it looks like just two Divisions was the decision so at the upper level there may be some early one sided games but as the scores showed on any given day.

Lots of girls from the US and maybe Canada missed this weekend - I think you will see even better play and the top players with all the teams come Championship weekend though some taking the SAT test will miss Saturday morning games.

Sounds like some good interest being shown by D1 coaches to attend and scout the Championship Weekend. Many schools who were planning to come out to Junior Festival have decided to come up early and catch some of the weekend games - teams have been asked to develop player profiles to share.

Also League sent out clarification on the use of post-grad college players in the Championship Weekend. As long as they were in the League last year, are rostered/age eligible and have played 4 games in the League this year they can legally play in the Championship games. Some HS post grad players on rosters may not meet this requirement.

Is this good news or bad news Joe? I know people like to win and want a level playing field but for development's sake isn't it best to play against the best players. I think it would be fun and good for the girls to play against D-1 college players even if they lost. The Reeces Pieces team had a couple of those for at least a couple of games last weekend and it made for some high tempo great games.

I don't think it is good or bad.....think you will see the best overall line ups for all teams (though Saturday morning is an SAT Test Day). The note just reminded coaches of the rule from last October which has been clear to all coaches. It said this is primarily a HS development League that especially on the Championship Weekend can help showcase U19 players (May is a Black Out Month so D1 coaches can not watch those games). Some teams may have college players rostered who did not meet the 4 game minimum (some may not have played any games yet) - that is after 3 or 4 weekends of hockey. I think both the Blues and the Reeces will have College players who are eligible and will be playing. Should be great hockey.

So despite year end tests, SAT test, CDN travel, soccer tournaments, kick off of OS Prospectspm Sunday....the Championship starts today. Should be best competition of the last three years.

It would appear Reeces Pieces, Micheletti Ice Cats or MN Blades (only team to beat Reeces Pieces) are the favorites to win.

Key discussions will be held Saturday afternoon to pick future Leadership Rick Roland has doen a great job this year but his term ends with the weekend. Not sure who next chair will be and if CDN or US. Seems like people/players like the Competition but a new group of Leaders need to step forward, tweak formula (is it to many games in to short of time) maybe and take it to the right next level. Thanks for everyones hard work this year.

I understand the website has been a challenge with no dedicated skilled web volunteer(s) in the League to keep updated. Stats are varied at best with parent scorekeepers. I think League has recieved score sheets for each game and have good data on goals, assists and penalties but very spotty goaltender stats. It would be nice to have the stats public but not sure to many of the players in the League are concerened (more the parents).

D1 programs Minnesota, UND, and MSU were on hand watching games at different times during the weekend. Not sure of the D3 programs on hand but know Marian College in Fond Du Lac, WI had two coaches there watching and were very impressed.

Actually, the Manitoba Saints defeated the Orange Crush for third place.

After the Crush's surprising upset of the Reece's Pieces and after battling Micheletti's Ice Cats to a scoreless tie well into the third period before losing 2-0, the Crush came up short against the Saints.

It was nice that you posted the information for the top tier teams. How about the other teams that also participted in the Two Nations League? How did they finish out?

Orange Crush win against Reece's Pieces

Post by jcp-18 »

Congrats to the ORANGE CRUSH! I caught the third period of this game. Not only did the Crush win, they did it with only 11 skaters and 1 goalie. Game winner scored by Allie LaCombe which gave her a hat trick. It sounds to me like at least half of the players for Orange Crush were freshmen including three of the four D -- Kira von Steinbergs, Ali Austin, Alison Peluso. Fourth D was Christina LaCombe. Not sure what forwards were playing. According to parent I talked to Crush had to find white jerseys to play against Reece's Pieces so jersey numbers were different than program. Big win for a first year team. The only other team to beat the Pieces in the TNFHL this year was the Blades. It'll be fun to see where they go from here.

That's easy. How about a 4th place finish. Big win against the pieces, but really, 4th place was an accomplishment. JCP done pimpin your 94's?

There is one thing that has been bothering me with the Crush and the Royals in the 2NFHL tournament. The Crush won their first game against the MN All Stars (4-1) and lost their second game against the Northern Starrz (4-0). The Royals won their first game against the Ica Cats-R (3-2) and lost their second gameagainst the Lightening (2-1). The third game that the Crush played was in the Championship round (against RP) but the third game that the Royals played was in the Consolation round (against the Ice Cats-R again). Can anyone explain this or direct me to someone connected with the tournament that can explain it?
