Just wondering where everyone thinks Jared Festler will fall. I noticed the only WCHA player from Minny being talked about on here was Shroeder (not a surprise) but I think Festler will get picked sooner than people think he will though. I'd say at least late 4th to early 5th round unless the NHL likes the Euro players more than good ol' Americans. But Jared played pretty good at SCSU last season and with Hanowski on the team reunited next year things may heat up in St. Cloud.
GO FLYERS!

Exactly! Until these guys hit the weight room and put on some actual muscle, they will continue to get pushed around like they did all year. Don't bother to remind me they had 166pts between them, because the truth is they played a pretty soft schedule. I can't believe Lee even played football because he cannot stand being hit. Too bad ringette is not an option for these guys because it sure would play to their style of play.....knockneed wrote:no, both are too soft for their size.

Lee is not exactly what i would call "soft". From what i saw out of him this year, he was plenty strong, and to even question this kid about his football abilities is uncalled for, Division I football is not for your "soft" guys. And as far as Edina having a "soft" schedule, lets take a peek at just some of the teams. Eden Prarie (state champions), Hill-Murray(before the suspensions), Blaine, Moorhead, Minnetonka, Centennial, and Holy Angels. Some of their other games weren't exactly cake-walks either. So before you go critizing these kids for not playing a strong schedule, know what your talking about.hornetsnest wrote:Exactly! hornetsnest - that was one of the best posts I've seen here. We can only hope their respective colleges institute ringette teams!
dangles, I know you can't tell tone of voice on here, but sarcasm can still sometimes be very apparent, as in this case.
dangles, nobody questioned lee about his football abilities. Trust me, just because you are a great high school football player doesn't translate to college, lee had 1 scholarship football offers, maybe coaches saw something in his film. For as big as he is he DOESN'T play to his size in either sport, just a opinion.

Knockneed, We do trust you, it's the media we don't trust, who for some reason awarded him the Gatorade player of the year, The Metro player of the year and a Mr. Football finalist. forget the fact he led the nation in rushing td's for QB's. The same applies for Hockey.knockneed wrote:dangles, nobody questioned lee about his football abilities. I do have to agree with you that for someone who is 12'-4" he certainly does not play up to his size in either sport. Keep up your insightful banter!
Everson, Lee you heard the man. Go hit the weights!

Look at it this way, based on his production and Knockneed's opinion that he has even more to give -- I think what Knockneed is really saying (unwittingly so) is that Lee has even more upside potential than most realize. According to Knockneed, just think what Lee could do if he plays up to his size. Wow. Worth a late round flier anyone?hornetsnest wrote:Knockneed, We do trust you, it's the media we don't trust, who for some reason awarded him the Gatorade player of the year, The Metro player of the year and a Mr. Football finalist. forget the fact he led the nation in rushing td's for QB's. Interesting that both Lee and Everson saw their Central Scouting rankings fall despite their size, team's strength of schedule and massive point productions. Lee's rankings went from 74 (midterm) to 118 (final) and Everson's rankings went from 123 (midterm) to 181 (final). I believe if you review the final rankings for all of the MN HS players, these two players did experience more of a drop than some or most of the other MN HS players listed. It would be interesting to know the inside thinking as to why this may have occurred. Also noted, Hanowski, who has repeatedly been critiqued for his team's weak schedule, actually improved in his final ranking (45/35). Granted, I realize these numbers don't tell the whole story and what happens on draft day is all that matters, but still an interesting point of discussion.

It would be interesting to know why the significant drop from mid-term to finals. As over-agers (2nd yr draft eligble) they take a hit from scouts. But in the end Lee and Everson were consistent the entire season, finishing 1-2 in scoring in the fall Bauer elite tournament, Schwans Cup, State tournament and 3-4th in overall scoring behind Hanowski and Benik. But smokesweed I am sure has the real skinny......gomnhky wrote:Interesting that both Lee and Everson saw their Central Scouting rankings fall despite their size, team's strength of schedule and massive point productions. I'm a Flyer fan and love Festler, but he needs to show some more durability. He was hurt a couple times in Juniors, and then was hurt again a good portion of the WCHA season. Looking forward to the coming Husky season as well.xavieriser wrote:Just wondering where everyone thinks Jared Festler will fall. Anders Lee and Marshall Everson were high school juniors in their first year of eligibility. Since there is zero chance of signing them, unless a player identifies himself as a first round prospect, GM's are more willing to let those players slide out of the draft, as they'll get another crack at them the following year, yet with more scouting information.
Festler won't get drafted. He'll be a solid collegiate player in the long run, but he's too slightly built and is too often injured to be considered a viable NHL prospect. If he can prove durable in the long run, he can sign a FA deal after he graduates. There are just too many players with less downside that are available in this year's draft.
I'm also very excited for the Huskies next season, but I don't think that a Hanowski/Festler reunion is something that's written in stone. They haven't played together for 2.5 years. Meanwhile, Ben proved he can get it done without Jared, and Festler probably has budding chemistry with some current Huskies. So, though they might end up on the same line, I give it a 30% chance at best. Moorhead's Barta and Ammerman, for example, still haven't been paired up in a game situation.

Hornetsnest,
I completely disagree with you. Both Lee and Everson work very hard in the weight room at Velocity and Lee is a very physical player. Everson can hold his own, but can work on being more physical. Both ARE very strong and push around smaller high school players.
Hear is where I agree with your assessment of how physical play will put them out of their elements. When a team like Moorhead comes down for the state tournament, they want to hit Lee and Everson, same with Hopkins and Minnetonka. When Lee and Everson play with kids who don't want to hit them, they are unstoppable. When a team comes down and doesn't hit tentatively, they stop Lee and Everson. This is because they have never been hit before because they are so physical. I think you remember the losses much more vividly than the wins and saw that they always lost when physical play took them out of their element.
In the football community, Lee's throwing mechanics do not translate to the next level and D1 schools see that. However, the gophers offered him a scholarship to play safety/linebacker, hardly where you hide a kid afraid of contact.
Both will learn to handle contact in college, otherwise they will never play. The drop in the ratings drop them back to were they were in the 1st rankings and probably reflects the fact that no longer were putting up 5 point games against strong teams like Blaine.

If that's true about USC then why didn't he take it? I personally think he's a better football player than a hockey player. But back to the thread - I would be a bit surprised if either one got drafted this year. Both nice players but not sure if they have NHL potential. I wish them the best though and hope we have a strong showing by the MN players.

Wow, do I DETECT a little BITTERNESS in knockneed, I think its rather funny and sad how both of you guys are getting worked up over Lee and pretend to actually know what he was or wasn't offered. Who the F--k cares anyways at this point?. Despite the fact he is more suited for ringette than hockey or football he landed a full ride at ND. Whats more pathetic is your both EDINA guys....knockneed wrote:don't know where your getting your gopher info but is ABSOLUTELY incorrect, there was never a offer given, this comes DIRECTLY from a coach. If they didn't offer mike rallis as a db/ lbr they sure as hell wouldn't offer a kid who never played linebacker. Let the hype die.
Does this help your mood knockneed? Go 26!
