Sour grapes
It sounds like daddy is mad making the decision to go to STA and is venting by blaming the STA coaches for the decision to to to Ann Arbor.
Didn't daddy know about Kurt Altricher enrolling at STA as a freshman, just like his son?
P.S. - what's the deal with the defections from Lakeville? They have been happening for several years now.....

The real appalling part is the senior McNeely was a high school varsity head and assistant coach in the past.nickel slots wrote:"The surprise was that his high school coaches didn't play him like they should."
I find it appalling that a sophomore goalie's dad feels that his kid should be the no. 1.. Especially behind a kid like Altrichter (who had to bide his time to get his shot), and especially in a program like STA that has gotten a pretty decent reputation for turning out goaltenders.
What's dad's rush??

One school splitting into two schools and Jordan Schroeder's move and subsequent success at STA may be what has driven others.
That's my guess

Yes, the comment by the kids dad was a little off color and unnecessary. However, I'm not sure "appaling" should describe the emotions you get from one comment. I'm sure of the hundreds of programs in MN, a fair amount of backup goalies dad's say things worse than what this guy said. He just happened to wind up in a Star Trib article for it.
So what? I'm not here to judge the better of the two goalies, but look at the credentials. D1 Scholarship, Blades, Selects and so on. Does that sound like a backup high school tender to you? Me niether. The frustration from the dad and kid is understandable. Just sweep this one under the rug and move on, I'm sure the McNeelys and STA have.
PS. I know my signature says "stay classy, minnesota". Get over it

Stay Classy, Minnesota.
A commitment does not = D1 scholarship. A college can de-committ if the young man does not develop as hoped. Didn't that recently happen to a former Blade's player, Badger recruit?Papa Bergundy wrote:Yes, the comment by the kids dad was a little off color and unnecessary. Hopefully NTDP works out for him. He will need to prove himself everyday.
Nice article in the Saint Paul paper about Matt, good damage control for what his dad said dissing the Vannellis.Papa Bergundy wrote:Yes, the comment by the kids dad was a little off color and unnecessary. There is no guarantee he will be the man in Ann Arbor either. Who will dad blame then? Here are the stats for the goalies at NDTP, funny there are 4 goalies listed on the roster page and it looks like one kid didn't play at all. Remember the arcticle about Nick Matson from Chaska? It took him a season before he acclimated and started seeing the icetime he was used to.
Adam Murray 33 1979 22 10 1/1 2 97 891 2.94 0.902
Brandon Maxwell 22 1393 14 8 0 1 76 597 3.27 0.887
Jack Campbell 7 421 7 0 0 2 12 188 1.71 0.940

The NTDP switches goalies pretty much every other game on the 17 team. The 18 team is a different story. Also keep in mind academics can also keep a kid from playing or other player issues just like here in MN. McNeely will be fine in Ann Arbor if he buys into the system.

SO, What's your point? Matson had to "buy into the system" also but his first year was rough. It sounds like in this case they think going to NTDP is the end all of the lack of playing time at STA. Truth is there are even more afctors in why he could NOT see the ice he hopes to get. Was Faulk injured or something? I notice he only saw action in 1 game, or was it a tough year of adjusting for him also?
Yes they switch I get it but it does list 4 GOALIES and only 3 have played with one only getting 7 games. Unless the stats sheet is wrong I would have to say the younger goalies have a year of "BIDDING THIER TIME" and "SEEING LIMITED MINUTES". And the fact is that is the way it has been at NDTP since it started, they aren't going to throw Will Yanakeff '92(Michigan State Recruit) off the bus because McNeely shows up. The Campbell '92 (Michigan Recruit) kid has better stats then the other 2. The other 2 are both 91's go back and look they "BIDED THEIR TIME ALSO"

Youngblood: I think you misread the stat sheets. Faulk played 64 games for the U17 team and 1 game for the U18 team. The goalies do rotate for the most part. Yanakeff and Campbell were on the U17 team and split games -- Yanakeff left the team for non-hockey reasons near the end of the year which explains the playing time differential. Campbell was promoted to the U18 team at the end of the year due to a disciplinary issue with one of the U18 team goalies and ended up the starter for the U18 team which won the world championships.

I was just trying to point out to you how things work at the NTDP. I had a nephew go there a few years ago. Matson probably didn't see as much time as he was used to on the 17 team because they pretty much rotate players. On a high school varsity team a coach alot of times will run two lines for most of a game.youngblood08 wrote:THISGAMEISCRAZY
