Two Nations Female Hockey League - 2009

Post by joehockey »

The League is forming up teams for next spring - year three for the League - sounds like two top US teams who have not been in the League are looking to join. A League wide conference call is being scheduled in September to share information with interested teams.

If you have not been in the league and you are a top HS/U19 Team or top player (HS Varsity or AAA U19 USA Hockey registered players) that has interest in playing in the League send an e-mail to the following address for consideration to join the League (individual players will be offered to teams who are trying to fill/complete rosters). If you played in the League last year contact your coach.

The web site for the US-Canadian Spring League is:

www.2nationsfemalehockeyleague.com

The Two Nations Female Hockey League is an at cost hockey league put together by volunteers to create top competition between the two countries, develop skills and sportsmanship.

Can it work with a player who plays a Spring sport?

I think a lot of the girls last spring were in track, softball, golf, lacrosse. Games are Friday night, Saturday, Sunday morning. Four weekends from end of April to early June. Most of the teams carried a roster of 23 and rotated players to meet schedules.

Joe, would you consider posting this in the "Minnesota Girl's High School Hockey" thread in the USCHO Women's Hockey forum...in an effort to further spread the word to those who may be interested?

Great idea - since you kind of carry the MN Torch on that board do you want to do the post?

Was just trying to let people know it is beginning to form for next spring.

Looks like 8 US Teams have submitted rosters and deposit for the 2009 League at the HS/U19 Level. These teams will play in to divisions against CDN teams. Northern Starz again planning to play as a CDN Division Team.

St. Croix Saints Dave Jacobson/Kip Pendleton (won in 2008 mostly '92 and Eastside Metro)
MN EXTREME Rick Ness (won League in 2007 mostly seniors from across the state)
Ice Cats - Don Michelletti (new to League top team of mostly '92 some of the top in the State)
Blades - Frank Mork (top team of very good '93 players)
Schwan Blues - John Barton ('90-'92 Teams mostly from North Metro Area)
Orange Crush - Gino Peluso (Edina/westside team '90-'93)
Ice Cats - Kevin Riley
MN Speed - Kevin Salo (N. MN team '92-'94)

The U14 Division is still accepting Teams with a goal of three teams - A Stillwater based team has committed and others are in discussion but have not committed. The League is planning 3 US and 3 CDN teams for first year at U14.

CDN would like to do a U12 Division but the US is suggesting to postpone till 2010.

A few updates. The League should have a top group of players the US rosters I have seen are below. The MN EXTREME had to withdraw as many of their seniors had conflicts. Thanks for the update, I will have two daughters that will be playing this year.
I can't say enough good things about this league. For anyone thats paid big money for summer hockey this is a great cost plus league.
Looks like two U14 Manitoba teams are being formed?

I understand the CDN may have up to 4 teams at the U14 level.

This League runs at an actual cost and provides competition for formed US and CDN summer teams. Last year the cost was under $300 per player for 17 games - based on 17 players per team/game. Most of these teams are playing other tournaments or games outside of this League. The League website is www.2nationsfemalehockeyleague.com

I'm sure Joe Hockey can help at some point. But, it's a League, there are teams, the teams signed up, paid, and they'll play games. Some here and some in Canada. I think it's two trips to Winnipeg. The Canadian teams make a couple of trips here and the Minnesota teams will also play each other here. The League got it's start in Canada and they gather the Canadian teams so that may be why they seem a little unresponsive. They recruited the teams a few months ago but almost all are returners. They may be looking for more teams, otherwise, you'd have to be invited by one of the metro or Minnesota based teams.

Just released - games open for Canadian teams this weekend:

Two Nations Female Hockey League Kicks Off Third Season

The Two Nations Female Hockey League (TNFHL) will kick off its third season beginning this April. The TNFHL is an independent at cost league that promotes a high level of competitive hockey for female hockey players and brings together top players from Canada and the US. The League is guided by a “Code of Conduct” that promotes sportsmanship, lifetime values and is focused strictly on the “Ladies in the League.” The “Great Hockey at a Great Value” concept has resulted in a steady expansion from the original 7 teams in 2007 to 13 teams in 2008 and to 19 teams and two age divisions for 2009 - including a new U14 Level. The growth has been a consequence word of recommendations among teams and players and has resulted in a concentration of the top summer teams.

The 2009 TNFHL will consist of the following teams and divisions:

Platinum (U19) Division:
US Platinum Division Teams:
St. Croix Saints
Ice Cats I
Ice Cats II
MN Blades
Blues
Orange Crush
Minnesota Speed
OS Minnesota All-Stars

Canadian Platinum Division Teams:
Manitoba Saints
Winnipeg Royals
Northern Starzz
Reece's Pieces
Lightning

Gold (U14) Division:
Winnipeg Falcons
Central Prairie Thunder
Northern Starzz
MN Ice Cats
Girls of the North

The 2009 Platinum Division will play League games April 10-11 (Morris, Manitoba), May 1-3 (Stillwater, MN), May 8-10 (Plymouth, MN), and May 15-17 and May 22-24 (Winnipeg, Manitoba). The Gold Division will play their games April 17-19 (Winnipeg, Manitoba), May 8-10 (New Hope, MN), and May 22-24 (Winnipeg, Manitoba). The Championship Weekend for the 2009 season will be June 5-7, 2009, at the Super Rink in Blaine. The timing of the Championship Weekend allows for the League to invite college coaches to observe the League games and players. The League Games are held on Friday evenings, Saturdays and Sundays. Teams can roster up to 25 players (22 skaters and 3 goalies) to manage around spring sports and other school activities.

Previous TNFHL Commissioner, Mike McGetrick (CDN), led the League in its first two years and has been instrumental in laying the foundation for future success. The 2009 Commissioner, Rick Rolando (US), will focus on driving the competitiveness of the League through a combination of a strong coaching base among the League teams and “getting the word out” to make sure top players are aware of and attracted to the League.

The 2009 version of the TNFHL promises to provide some great competition and exciting hockey. A number of current D-I and D-III players have played in the League. With a focus on giving girl hockey players the opportunity to play against girls from many different programs in Minnesota and Manitoba, the League is looking forward to its 3rd successful year of competition.

The League’s website, www.2nationsfemalehockeyleague.com/index.php, gives some history of the League and will cover the 2009 season. Team or individual inquiries about the League can also be made through the website or by contact through info@2nationsfemalehockeyleague.com .
