Not saying there aren't politics in this whole deal - everyone knows there is - but I missed this one. Couple kids missing from this roster that I expected, but didn't see any coaches' kids - sorry should have put this on Adv 16 thread I guess though.
When you show up to the rink, it will all make sense to you. One kid on your team just got added. He wont be hard to pick out. He is a coaches kid. Maybe not your coaches kid...
itsjusthockey.....Have you watched any of the Rochester teams? Mayo....all there good players are too old for 17's...only one even tried out. JM....well they don't have anyone that is good! Century they have two kids Rashler and Faupal, most would say Rashler is the better of the two.
Give Souix Fan a break.....40-60 kids in three hours... the system is flawed not he coaching. There should be 3 groups of 20 kids to get on honest look.

Don't get all firm on me mooseturd, just looking for clarification on your vague and somewhat random posting.
Ill get firm with whomever I feel like getting firm or flaccid with....
I don't think Moos was getting firm on anybody... Not a bad post in my mind either. However, Siouxfan looks for gamers and players that are willing to skate till they are blue in the face. Will beats skill when it counts. Not sure if Grubb is that type of player or not.
itsjusthockey wrote:I'm surprised that some people try to defend the Section 1 Advanced 17 tryouts, the coaches hate Rochester kids, that's why all the Mayo, JM and all but 1 non-Lourdes kids got cut, most only had two days to show what they could do, the coaching staff was Lourdes dominated / biased. I'm shocked Matt Roth got cut (was the only Lourdes player to get cut) and Conner played for Sioux Fan last year so he was a lock as the only Rochester public school kid to make the team. This entire process is a joke with the people they have making decisions. I'm glad to see people are starting to figure it out and changed the elite II coaching staff, it can only help improve the chances for a fair evaluation of all kids that the former coaches would cut. Hockey in Section 1 continues to be controlled by people with their own agenda, another example is the Great 8 and no Century kids, I'm surprised the 1 AA champs didn't have any good seniors, I'm also shocked that the Mayo kids made it which they diserved so we know the Advanced 17 staff didn't pick the team or it would have been every Lourdes kids
Don't forget that Whitney (the AD and the "real" headcoach for Mayo) is the one that counted the votes for Great 8. Any Century kid that might have been on the list to make (Tyler Anderson who should have clearly made it) would have been cut because of Century taking Whitney's kids chance to go to state away.
In deffence of Sioux Fan the first two sessions each went an extra half hour longer so each kid got a four hour look. However thought there were one - two kids cut on Saturday that should be on the team, I personaly would have cut about 5 kids that made the team.

We will continue to try to get the best kids and be fair that is all we can do.
I do not see being involved with the kids and knowing them is bad thing.
See, in the case of the Blaine coach/dad, his player has never made even a Festival team. And as everyone else has gotten bigger, it's made his player being chosen even less likely. Unfortunately it will be very obvious how out of place the kid is this weekend. Shame on the other evaluators for supporting this dad. You would hope they would care a little more about the process. Maybe so long as their school's players get on on the team they turn a blind eye. 5A/AA has more to offer.
Doesn't say much for Pitts, Windle, and Stern, all of which went on to New York last year with the 16s. I have a feeling they will all move on and others won't.
I had a chance to go to the section 6 vs STA(section?) game today, one of the best select games i have ever seen
Patterson, Gardiner, Rau, that line is unstoppable
they out played the other teams top line of Isackson, Crandall, Gavin
A good batch of 17's this year
