SSM is very impressive especially right now getting ready to go to Naitonals. The MN JR Whitecaps did OK hanging with the two SSM teams considering first game together - think it was 2-1 after 1, 3-2 after 2 and 7-3 final shots were 43-25 SSM or so. The second game was a 2-2 tie with U16. Dana Gallop was not able to make the games.
The MN Blades had more luck on Sunday going down 4-3 with U19 but beating the U16. Here is the player list posted elsewhere for them but not sure who was there.

As the girls get older, there are more and more conflcts. School, College Prep, Other Sports, Work, etc.observer wrote:What's the point of a 24 player roster? Parents pay for that? That's stupid. I know at younger ages when working on development and having 20-30 practices more bodies are better so there's always a decent number at every practice. Older tourney team? I like 13 skaters for summer, 15 maybe, 22?
Maybe 24 players is too many, I don't know. I do know it is not very effective to have 9 or 10 players on the bench for a game with 20 minute stop time periods. Especially if the team in the other bench is rolling 3 lines.
This is a Two Nations Female Hockey League Roster I think the League encourages 22 skaters and 3 goalies on roster since it can conflict with spring events. I don't know Blades normal roster maybe someone will post very talented group and will be one of the top summer teams. I am guessing they practice with less than this and one girl is actually at SSM so may not be that available till after school is out?observer wrote:What's the point of a 24 player roster? Many of the teams in the Two Nations prorate the expense of league over the 17 games and then over the kids who actual skate - that way if you have a conflict it hasn't cost you money. I don't think any of these teams dress more than 9 F, 6 D and 2 G. My daughters team had 25 person roster last year and all played in some games I think most games they had under 15 skaters and 2 goalies due to spring sports and things like graduation parties or prom or other events.
Many teams have rosters of 15-18 skaters and 2 goalies, plus 4-5 alternates. Parents of alternates generally pay a smaller fee (1/2 or less) to practice with the team and play when needed. Full time players have priority but as anyone that has managed a team knows, it is rare to go thru an entire season without needing alternates to fill in. So its a pretty good deal for an alternate if they know that they are one of the first ones called when there is an opening. I believe some of the girls that Joe lists are alternates.joehockey wrote:This is a Two Nations Female Hockey League Roster I think the League encourages 22 skaters and 3 goalies on roster since it can conflict with spring events. My Daughter was an alternate goalie last year with them, they are a good bunch of girls and they seemed to gel as the year went on.MNhockeylover wrote:What about the OS/ Extreme '92 team? Heard they were pretty good last year. Any good talent this year?
Lots of good talent.
As far as this year I have not heard who is all on it, other than what I have seen on their website looks like they have added some more talent.

Any one have scores on these games. Looks like south handled everyone pretty easy. Looks like North team handled their own. How did the west beat the east after getting hammered by them before?OntheEdge wrote:South (4-0-0) beat North (1-2-1) in the 1st Place gamejoehockey wrote:So how have the games gone - I heard East best West 9-3 on opening night how have the other games gone? I had not heard of this tournament. Can someone tell me about it (such as who sponsors it, how many years it has been going on, how the teams are picked, who coaches the teams, etc.) Thank you.Melvin44 wrote:Gopher State tonight Thursday April 2nd, 7:00 at the Super Rink. Its the typical pay and play tourney. Regions are not firm. The West team had many Northern Metro and Southern Metro girls. The coach gets to pick his team.jumpstart wrote:I had not heard of this tournament. From what I heard it was a scramble to find enough girls to fill the West roster, probably because the tourney was over many HS spring breaks. On paper the East was the stronger team. I'm not sure how the West won except to say that the West played well. The West created some really nice scoring opportunities by moving the puck around and seemed to capitalized on most of them. It was nice team work. The East fell behind 4-0 pretty quickly and fought hard to get back in the game but they never got closer than a 2 goal differential. The West won 8-5.upnorthguy wrote:Any one have scores on these games. Looks like south handled everyone pretty easy. Looks like North team handled their own. One oddity about this tournament is that there were two girls who are current seniors, both of whom played for the South team. Otherwise all of the other players will be returning to play high school next year.OntheEdge wrote:Its the typical pay and play tourney. Regions are not firm. Usually this tournament is only for underclassmen. It was hard filling the roster as many girls were doing Shattuck's, NDP, OS etc. The East squad had to fill with Venneman because we had a girl drop out at the last minute.
It is a fun tournament as you play 2 45 minute periods. It would be nice if they developed a website. Only thing I don't like about the tournament is that they require 16 skaters which throws lines off.
East lost because they had the worst coach. (me of course)
Our girls had a lot of fun though.
.
I've never had or seen a team laughing and getting along as much as this team. It's great to see girls from so many teams not to mention rival teams getting along. Awesome group of girls!
