Does anyone know of a high school state tournament being played outside of the Twin Cities Metro area?
I think there is little doubt that this does give some advantage to the TC teams that don't have to travel and get to sleep in their own beds at night.
Also, the officiating is different. Not bad, they just seem to call more “tic-tac” penalties then I’m used to seeing. Do they draw officials from around the state, or just the Metro area?
I realize that there are some stipulations as to the rink design, but I’d think that any town that is capable of hosting a 8 team tournament would be capable of hosting the state tournament.
Not complaining, just curious.
Has state tournaments ever been outside of Twin Cities?

Bantam A this year is in Theif River Falls, U12A is in Grand Rapids, So yes they are held outside the T.C.

But no, HS tourney has been in the cities forever.
BUT
All teams are housed in hotels in St Paul and eat together etc....
This rule was adopted in the 60's at the urging of Larry Ross, long-time Intl Falls coach.
The refs are assigned by the MSHSL through nominations based on quality of players as judged by peers and coaches. All areas of the state are represented.
The AA typical has 15 to 19,000 people in the building. No other place in MN can handle that. The single A could go somewhere else, but a lot of people like to see both and moving it would make it difficult and cut the #'s at one or the other (probably the A)
