Lake Conference 09-10
Lake Conference
(All returning counted players are from rosters according to MSHSL website)
1. Eden Prairie- Returning 2 Goalies, 8 Forwards, 4 Defenseman. Returning lots of talented sophomores. JV team that had talent ready to fill the spots of graduated players. Pre-season pick to win conference.
2. Jefferson- Returning 1 Goalie, 5 Forwards, 4 Defenseman. Herbert, Knight, Dietzler, Pauluk, Faust make for strong senior leadership. Some very strong skilled players on their JV this year that I believe can make a difference this year as well. I guess my one question, how good will goaltending be? We never really got to see the back-up.
3. Apple Valley- Returning 1 Goalie, 7 Forwards, 4 Defenseman. They are returning some young key players and will also had some juniors, sophomores, maybe a freshman as well for next year. Overall should have some good strong balance.
4. Eagan- Returning 0 Goalies, 6 Forwards, 4 Defenseman. Also have some young talent that will be available to them like Valley. No goalies returning will be interesting for them. I’m not exactly sure what’s waiting but I would guess it’s not going to be a weak link for them to ruin the season.
5. Lakeville North- Returning 2 Goalies, 7 Forwards, 4 Defenseman. Team that was very young this year and will only continue to get better. I have a feeling about this team for next year to have a successful season.
6. Lakeville South- Returning 2 Goalies, 6 Forwards, 4 Defenseman. They much like Valley and Eagan could look to add some young talent next year. Both goalies split time last year. Returning 4 of the top 6 point production players as well.
7. Eastview- Returning 2 Goalies, 8 Forwards, 3 Defenseman. Will really need Trepanier and Smith to step up and get more than 18 and 16 points. Those are the top 2 they have coming back. I have heard from a reliable source that Ryan O’Shea will leave for Juniors, however, it is not official so I’ll predict now as if he is staying and change if it becomes official because that would obviously be a huge loss for this team. Defense was weak this year I think more or the same there next year.
8. Burnsville- Returning 1 Goalie, 6 Forwards, 7 Defenseman. They do not have a strong goalie waiting in line unless there is one from Bantams this year. The goalie returning is the JV goalie that was called up after a player left the team late in the year. Scoring for them will need to prove themselves only returning 2 of top 6 in points. Downfall I really think could be giving up bad goals.
9. Chaska- Returning 2 Goalies, 5 Forwards, 5 Defenseman. Need more consistent play from their goalie and also lost their top point production. Lost top 5 to graduation. Player with most point production returning is Defenseman Zach Wilkinson.
***Some players will be gone to Chanhassen next year.***
10. Rosemount- Returning 1 Goalie, 6 Forwards, 3 Defenseman. Top 2 point production players are returning but still just looking to improve in the conference. The starting goalie struggled last year but is returning and hopefully improved.
11. Kennedy- 2 Goalies, 11 Forwards, 6 Defenseman. Well they clearly have some experience that will be coming back. I think they win a conference game or two again next year.
12. Chanhassen- Last by default.
I really struggled putting Burnsville and Eastview so low. Burnsville is not traditionally down there and O’Shea can keep Eastview in any game but I don’t think Burnsville has the goaltending or the scoring ability they had last year. Eastview has poor defense returning and losses Friedman who was clearly their best player. I really think this conference will have 8 teams next year that can be competitive. I’m not really sure about Jefferson because they have some star power but is the goaltending there? That can obviously make a difference especially lat in the year. I feel the same way about Eagan. I might swap some teams around still this off season as I look into how a few of these teams fair in the nets and also depth on D and at Forward. Just a quick run through on all the teams, let me know what you think. It’s still obviously early.
EDIT: Everything is based on as if everyone is staying for next year. Will edit if things change.

Jefferson has brought in a new hotshot from kennedy, and apparently 2 outstanding players...1 from florida and 1 from texas. From what I have heard these are inside Jefferson rumors that I know zero validity too, but its seems ever since that blades of glory book came out there has been some random stud coming from the national scene to play for the baby blue on an annual basis.
EP's Molenaar has been getting allot of attention (rightfully so) and I have heard he is trying out for NTDP? again this is just speculation, and even if he tries out that doesnt mean he'll make the team. He is a very talented skater and I hope EP can retain him.
Finally, I have heard good things about Lakeville North. I know little to nothing about them, but I have heard people say they are nervous about what lakeville can do to other teams.
Looks like the Lake will be the conference to watch next year with Eden Prarie being the #1 and Jefferson probably being the #2 team in state.

Apple Valley is going to be the real darkhorse in this conference next year. Look for them to make a run to the tourney for 2-3 years now.theoneandonly1 wrote:I'm pretty sure all of those rumors would be false.gophermadman wrote:nailed it on the head. Chaska/Chanhassen
Will play as one team (with two JV teams) for at least two seasons, until the Lake/Classic Lake realignment and they are kicked into a smaller school conference. (Missota probably)

Chaska Will return Jake Ericson which was their highest point leader for their junior class. They will also be able to play their goalie that was out this season due to his transfer appeal loss. Chan and Chaska are splitting schools but not hockey teams
A.V will be returning a young team but they will probaly be around the same place they were this year.
Burnsville will be returning a good group of kids but look for the loss of their top players to hurt them a bit.

I must have missed and counted Erickson as a senior good catch. I also was unaware of the fact Chaska and Chanhassen would be sharing a hockey team, interesting. How will Erickson produce without Robb though, it makes the 1st line a little weaker for sure.notorious17 wrote:Chaska Will return Jake Ericson which was their highest point leader for their junior class. I think Valley improves on their conference standing. Burnsville takes a hit to their line-up. Burnsville will have an even bigger problem in goal than they had at the end of this year which will really hurt them along with the loss of the entire 1st line they had.

Burnsville: I agree the lack of goaltending will be a huge diffrence maker. Who do they have to take the starting spot?
A.V: To me, Its hard to say how Apple Valley will do. They came through with many strong wins but also lost when they should have won as well. I think the players comming back with have more experiance which is good for this young team. They will be fun to watch in the up-comming years.
Chaska: That is true it will be intresting to see how he reacts without either of the support for his senior linemates robb or blake. Chaska also returns most of its experianced defensive crew though. They wont be scoring 6 goals a game in the 09-10 season, but then again with the other goalie being able so play, hopefully they wont have to.

ep and jeff run away with the lake. there is no one else close.
as far as burnsville and apple valley they both will be competing for the 3 spot in the conference.
and for chaska. they have a couple solid D that will help them out and a couple good forwards to score some goals. And they still will have goalie troubles so that will hurt them. their transfer goalie is slighty above average at best.

I can't see Burnsville finishing that high. Unless they have a goalie waiting in Bantams. I was able to watch there JV goalie a few times and it could be a long year giving up bad goals for them. Without the first line they had this year I can't see them winning as many this year as they did because they were able to counter the goals they gave up and put up big numbers to save some games.buddish4mrhockey wrote:ep and jeff run away with the lake. there is no one else close.

yeah thats true. Burnsvile took a huge blow when may and king aswell as others left the lineup.hockeyjunkie2 wrote:I can't see Burnsville finishing that high. as far as burnsville and apple valley they both will be competing for the 3 spot in the conference.
and for chaska. they have a couple solid D that will help them out and a couple good forwards to score some goals. And they still will have goalie troubles so that will hurt them. their transfer goalie is slighty above average at best.
What about the other teams in the lake? How will the Lakevilles and Eastview match up in the conferance?

I have heard from someone in the program that Ryan O'Shea Eastview's goalie is leaving but that could still change. They would really be hurting without him. If he is there as we know he can keep a game close for them but cannot do it every night which I feel he would need to do. Last year they gave up 37.5 shots on an average night! They are losing what I considered this year their top 2 defenders to graduation and Friedman as well their biggest goal scorign threat. This team will need to be carried by O'Shea in net if he stays and also Max Smith who has been here since 8th grade and Trepanier and Chacich along with others would obviously need to step up for them to have success this year. I don't see it out of this team next year, if O'Shea does leave I would drop them to finish 8 in my predictions behind Burnsville.notorious17 wrote:yeah thats true. Lakeville North had alot of young talent on their team this past year. They had 3 freshman including Nate Arentz who had a nice season of 27 points no easy task as a freshman in this league. They carried a freshman goalie which saw very little time, interesting to see how he develops. Skjei was a defender who had 16 points. They will be carried by some young players but could see some success. 5 of the top 7 players in points return. They gave up about 30 shots/game last year bring that down and have the goalies step up and improve their play a little I think this could be a top 5 lake team next year. Depending on Eagan's goalie situation next year I would put them as high as 4 and as low as 6 for right now.

Forgot about Lakeville South. They had a strong Bantam A program but they always seem to see those kids leave to STA so we will see how that goes this year. Bill Simon was their best player this past season he has graduated and that is a blow to this team without a doubt. I think it is something they can overcome though with the return of Seurer, F (32 pts), Parizek, F (30 pts), Kloos, F (27 pts), Brevig, D (24 pts). Returning 2 goalies maybe 3, Gustafson according to pointstreak played in 7 games but is not listed on the MSHSL roster (I wish pointstreak showed what grade a player was.) They played 4 total last year because of inconsistency. Frahm and McKay the 2 returning that we know of both played 8 games. South could use one of them to step up and make him the clear cut everyday guy. That's something you can't predict is how will they improve this off season.
Burnsville did take a hit losing that first line of forwards but they do have a complete core of returning defensemen that will have a years more experience. Last season their defense consisted of 1 senior, 4 juniors and 2 sophomores so they'll have 6 returning defensemen for 09-10.notorious17 wrote:yeah thats true. I think you will be surprised with the 2 Lakeville's next year I would be shocked if they finish that low.notorious17 wrote:So with Jefferson and EP running away with the lake..who comes up behind them?
1-EP
2-Jefferson
Then a throw upp
for places 3-7
8-Lkvl South
9-Lkvl North
10-Rosemount
11-Bloomington K.
If oshea leaves for juniors Eastview will be hurting.

BK at 11? Now that TK is no longer the coach, will that make a difference?
Is O'shea really good enough to play jrs? When you see as many shots as he did during the season and you make most of the saves. Does that mean you can play jrs? It's a totally different game and the next level.notorious17 wrote:So with Jefferson and EP running away with the lake..who comes up behind them?

is o'shea good enough to play jrs? are you kidding me? according to minnhock Eastview had the 8th hardest schedule this past year where he posted the most saves in the state...
but you do have a point, jrs is a whole new level. But he in my mind is ready for juniors.

Maybe we will have to see who both lakevilles have returning. Lakeville South goalie Gustofson (spelling?) looked really solid in net from what i saw.hockeyjunkie2 wrote:I think you will be surprised with the 2 Lakeville's next year I would be shocked if they finish that low.notorious17 wrote:So with Jefferson and EP running away with the lake..who comes up behind them?

I dont think BK's new coaching staff will make much of a diference this year. I think it will take some time for him to turn some things around for the program.
As for Oshea he is very solid and a very capable goalie. Like you guys said though Juniors is another level and most goalies that peak early (Mike Webb) dont do well at the higher levels. Then again i could be wrong but i think he should stay and grow a little bit his senior year

With EP and the Jags in the Lake Conference all you can really talk about is who comes up after them. And i think that will be a fight.
Im excited to see what will happen next year.
