The angle they were showing on TV (which was from behind him to his right) showed that he was very offsides and pulled the puck in behind him. However, it wasn't very easy to see the blue line from the angle, but it looked offsides.
However, that was a very, very nice goal and don't think him having to be onside would have changed the outcome in any way.

Ok, I just watched it again on super slow motion, and I was wrong, he was offsides. It doesn't matter though, because it still wasn't a reviewable play.EREmpireStrikesBack wrote:Not sure what angle you are watching, but the one I see he's got both in the zone when he drags the puck in behind him.greyhoundsnation27 wrote:Actually, he wasn't offside. I have the game taped, he only had one skate over the line. It was a VERY close play, but his left leg appeared to still be in the neutral zone when the puck crossed the line.City of Compton wrote: Hey! I'm glad you brought that up!! I was at the game today so I didn't really get to see any clear replay-I thought he was offsides!! I can't believe they let that happen like that... But even with replay I suppose they can't review that and take the goal away either though...
What garbage.
p.s. I didn't say Moorhead was awesome either! Sheesh you kids are sensitive. I state my opinion once and get savaged.
Actually, a similar play happened a couple years ago in a Hermantown - Warroad game. Hermantown scored a goal, the Warroad coach thought they were offside and wanted a review, but was told it wasn't a reviewable play.
Regardless, that was a pretty sick goal so mad props on that.

It was REALLY close. If the refs deemed he had control of the puck, and then he went into the zone before the puck, it is not offsides. That is what I believe they called. Either way, it was a very pretty goal, and being a step back would not have affected the outcome.greyhoundsnation27 wrote:Ok, I just watched it again on super slow motion, and I was wrong, he was offsides. Moorhead's played all their lines consistently through the tournament, and have had success doing this. They seem to be the fresher team as the game wears on. I haven't noticed EP wearing down at all though in any of their games, so I think Marks will have to make alot of saves in this one for them to have much of a chance. I know they played well against Edina for the first half of the game, but Edina really dominated up until Moorhead scored that 4th goal late in the 3rd. EP has alot of skill in their first two lines, and I just don't see Moorhead being able to match up with that. I hope we all see a great game, but I see EP controlling the play for the most part.

Then apparently you weren't at or didn't see their quarterfinal game. Absolutely out skated in the 3rd. They are very fortunate to be here and i think Moorhead will take care of that problem.............Moorhead's played all their lines consistently through the tournament, and have had success doing this. Both teams struggled at times last night...
EP had a bad 1st period, and the Spuds stunk up the 2nd... But, they both played well in the other two periods and won big games...
Congrats to both squads!
Tonight, I see EP winning this game. I like Leddy an awful lot, and in a big game you look to have your best take the game over, and Mr. Leddy may be Mr. Hockey in this great state of hockey! I also like the play of the talented 10th graders on this team, Rau & Ford could also be difference makers as they were to a point last night...
Moorhead is playing well, and they are skating very well, but I think tonight the glass slipper may fall off...
I usually root for the northern squads, and will tonight, but I believe that EP will win a state HS title tonight...

I hope you are right. However objectively, I think we need to hope for another upset. I don't think anyone will claim that we have the best two teams left in the tournament. We could take the 8 tournament teams, throw them together into a home and away round robin schedule and I would be willing to bet that Moorhead would come away with a losing record.newSPUDfan wrote:Moorhead's history at state is two excellent games and one horrible one. Luckily, they got the horrible one out of the way last night and still won!
The beauty of the tournament (or downfall if you see it that way) is that the best team doesn't always win. So many other things have to fall into place. 1) a hot goalie 2) desire or effort 3) a few lucky bounces or calls
In 2004 and 2005, I thought Moorhead had the best teams in the state only to finish as runners up both years. It would be very ironic that this bunch of average(by Moorhead standards) but hardworking players could accomplish something that none of the other great Moorhead teams could get done. A state championship.
Don't get me wrong. This is the only way to determine a true champion and yes if you can't win three games in three days you don't deserve the title of champion. What I'm saying is that the best talent or even the best team doesn't always win. I have witnessed that fact in many sports over many years.
I will be cheering for the Spuds tonight. It will be an upset if Moorhead wins. They are not going to win in the talent department, but perhaps they can overcome the talent deficit through a hot goalie, desire and a few lucky breaks or calls. The game can change on a few lucky bounces of the puck.
I would take another ugly win, no questions asked. I few favorable calls wouldn't hurt either. (Yes, I still remember Spehar's penalty shot! We were robbed)

Very well said Hotpotato!
This could be the year that a bunch of no-names from Moorhead play as a team and win the Championship! I say no-names, not to belittle the team but comparing this team to years past state teams from Moorhead it has no division one players, no Mr. Hockey finialists and no real standouts. Scoring or lack of this year has been spread out and fairly balanced. The real question is which Moorhead team will show up and play.......Moorhead needs to play very well to win tonight. In other words they need to EARN IT! 4-3 Moorhead brings it home!

I would like to refer you to the Edina Vs Moorhead thread from a couple days ago.......... I guess the south metro does not learn from their mistakes!!!!JV State Champs wrote:The spuds cinderalla run is over. EP is bigger, faster, more skilled and deeper than Moorhead.
