I thought people realized that when they got the crap kicked out of them by Hill and Benilde.
So you are saying Edina isn't very good because the Spuds kicked the crap out of them.

Topic is very interesting, and I agree with almost all those listed.
Especially the last post mentioning some really really good Moorhead teams.
Amazing how the game is ...
I know a lot of Moorhead people, and they have come into the state tourney many times EXPECTING to win it all.
They came in this year, just happy to be there. And look what happened.
Pressure does crazy things to teams.
Losing 8 in row in the regular season probably developed a solid core of guys for Moorhead, who don't expect anything to be handed to them. Champions have to learn to lose somewhere along the line.
That win for Moorhead last night wasn't a fluke, they were the stronger, more confident team, the entire game.
That's why you play 'em.

I'd give this one a vote...despite the 5-OT loss, they still won handily in the 3rd place game the next night. It was Spehar's senior year--he had 13 points in the tourney, the most in AA since Mayasich in 1951 (a couple of Cloquet players also had 13 in the tier 1 tourney in 92).

The 97 East team should probably be mentioned too. They were undefeated until the loss to Edina in the state title game.
Very true ... on 97 , my senior year, remember the 1-0 loss in the championship and the disallowed goal with around a minute or so left on a high stick, and hating the goofiest looking person ive seen in a while.. Jeff Hall

I chose the 96 team basically for the reason i thought they were the bettter more offensive team just due to the spehar locker, first line.. 98 was more fun of a team to watch over 97 , carlson brothers, finnegan really coming up and making a name for himself, coole in net.. just a great team that year

Where is finnegan now?? all i remember is him being probably the most fluid strong skater i have ever seen in HS and having excellent puck handling skills

X2 , so now the hounds being out im going for the northern rule, hopefully warroad can take the hardware back north and moorhead can make a heck of a good run, and after how they played last night nobody should be doubting them or there talent and desire to finally win this thing

Where did I say that? I never even said Roseau isn't very good; I said they weren't the best team in the state. Obviously they were a good team, probably top 10 last season, just not near #1. Edina this year certainly isn't #1 either. However, Edina actually proved themselves worthy of a higher ranking during the regular season with some wins against strong opponents granted they had a few slip-ups as well.

Early 90's Moorhead teams were loaded with talent. Also the 07 team that lost to Roseau to go to state was a very talented team.

Last years Benilde and Skippers. either team could have won it all.

Duluth East 2009. Probably East's most dominant team ever, as far as physicality and dominance goes.

Being that they lost three games during the regular season, I wouldn't say so. They outshot nearly everybody they faced, sometimes by a lot, but the scoring dropped off a ton after Tardy. It certainly was one of the strongest defensive teams East has had (until State), but they struggled at times with being able to bury their chances.

If I were to nominate a team from East in this category, it'd be the 95-96 squad.

I remember an East team (someone help me with the yr) that I think was undeafted and lost in the final game.

As for the Marshall team; I would say someone got aligator arms in 06 and this team should have won it.

That was the 96-97 squad.

All three marshall teams that made it to the ship, but the best team they had was deffinitely the 05-06 team... sorry to say it but Paul can be blamed for that loss. 3 goals allowed in 2 some minutes

The 96-97 East team was an outstanding team -- I think somebody above is correct they were undefeated going into the final. They lost in the final 1-0 to an Edina team they had played the last game of the regular season and thoroughly outplayed in winning 5-2 (at Edina). Edina would not have beaten East that year more than a couple times out of ten, but caught lightening in a bottle in the final. Funny how things can tend to even out over time...

Yea the 05-06 team was by far the best team over the course of the season. You could make a case the 06-07 team should have won, but that's hockey. 07-08 STA was without a doubt the better team.
As for others, Edina this year, 1996 East, AHA in 05. Everything else is beyond my hockey memory.
