No, single elimination. 8 teams just like the high school state tournament.Hoops wrote:AV/Wayzata is return bout from Pee Wee A state title 2yrs ago..minus a few players. This should NOT be a 1st round match. Also is this double elim? Can the loser of this still get to the title game.
BANTAM A STATE TOURNAMENT
Moderators: Mitch Hawker, east hockey, karl(east)
It was one of the first games of the season for Valley, and they were missing a forward and the defense that plays up if we are missing a forward so the lines were screwed up. Also, Valley had three goals disallowed that game. Nowhere near Valley's top effort that night.BogeyMan wrote:Sniper87?218er wrote:Highland Central has the best Goalie in the tourney hands down. I don't envision them making much noise at State, but I can promise that they won't give up a lot of goals and they'll be very physical. They are a pretty good team considering they lost their best players to High School. I saw them play against Apple Valley early in the year (before they lost their players) and they dominated the entire game. I know the community is very proud of these kids.

Highland Central-
Strengths/Weaknesses: Solid defense and goaltending, not much offensive firepower
Forwards: decent skills but slow and small
Defense: solid, physical, decent size and skill
Goaltending: backbone of the team, very solid goaltender, hopefully can shut down the good competition, probably the 3rd or 4th best goalie in the tournament (behind Rochester and AV and maybe one more)
Intangibles: base their game off defense and goaltending, if they are going to win the forwards are going to need to put the biscuit in the basket a lot more than they are right now

Forwards - Solid no stand outs, but can roll lines and wear you down
Defense - again no real stand outs solid, can play mistake free game
Goaltending - not as good as previous years, but team D makes them good
Intangibles - coaching, this is a top team in preparation every year
Minneapolis Park -
Forwards - a couple of top end guys
Defense - large, but not very speedy
Goaltending - did not stand out
Intangibles - can they play as a team? or will they try and do too much as individuals
Rochester Red -
Forwards - solid up and down, good size, however not overly physical
Defense - again good at moving puck up the ice
Goaltending - great! tops in state
Intangibles - PP is very good
Osseo/Maple Grove -
Forwards - Very Large and quick, if were more physical would be deadly
Defense - #16 is tops in state, others are good
Goaltending - suspect at times, however made some good saves in Region final, playing well at important time
Intangibles - have been up and down all year, if you get their best, chances are you will loose, if you don't they are very beatable
Bemidji -
Forwards - some speed, and can play physical game
Defense - Big kids, slow
Goaltending - very beatable
Intangibles - take penalties and PK is not very good
Highland Central -

Apple Valley - did not see play this year
Wayzata -
Strengths are -Forwards-Defense
Goaltending - never tested however still good
Intangibles - will #14 play? he was out in the Centennial and Rogers games in Regions, yet the Trojan Machine still rolled!!!!

is D16 still working on what games are played where. I notice the bracket on Minnesotahockey.org has the teams plugged in but not the arenas. The other levels I checked have the arena name plugged in.
I agree it doesnt matter where the games are played- just wondering if it is still being worked out since it is not posted.

No, the only thing they are working on is deciding if they should shoot for Saturday to use the Ralph ice sheet or wait until Sunday.puckboy wrote:is D16 still working on what games are played where. Its like New Hope North and South.
Once you are there it is only a matter of what dressing room they send you to.
The banquet is in the Imperial room of the Ralph so everyone will be able to see all of the 'Ralph' and how to get around within the Ralph/Huck facility.
Great anology of the Highland Team.blainehockeymom wrote:Highland Central-

Wow. Elliott can't you do something? It appears that District 16 is going to have MUD ON THEIR FACE. I am at a loss of words as I find out that not only has Thief River proven unable to secure accomodations for the teams and their families to stay, but now we find out that they do not have a large enough facility to host a banquet in which both sets of parents can attend!!! Each team is allowed only 25 tickets beyond players and coaches.... You have got to be kidding me?!!! What a joke! Can anything be done to make this right?
p.s. I'm sure District 16 does have cities that are capable of hosting this type of tournament in the proper manner; it is unfortunate that this is the type of representation they are projecting.

One thing I like about Rochester at state is that they seem to find a way to win the tournaments they are in. They have won 4 tournaments this year, plus Districts and regionals. Seem to be well motivated under pressure. Also a extemely well coached team.Chuck Norris Fan wrote:Duluth East -

according to the state host agreement on banquets I would hope all parents and family to have the ability to attend.
10. Banquet. The Host is required to provide a Tournament banquet or breakfast (State tournaments only)
for players, coaches and official team staff. All teams will attend the banquet/breakfast. Parents and
families should be invited to attend the event.

if this is accurate, this is two huge planning mistakes

We do not operate as a district on these events. We are too far apart and too independent.puckboy wrote:thanks elliot- Im sure D16 will put on a great show for the young men.
Thief River Falls is doing the work.
Refs will come from around the district and other places but they are the ones to be congratulated.
For the things that go wrong, well, that would be my department.
Yeah, I just got a phone call.G12 wrote:Wow. Elliott can't you do something? It appears that District 16 is going to have MUD ON THEIR FACE. They have other venues.

It's situations like this that just gives more ammunition to the folks that want all state tournaments to be held in St. Paul....speaking of which, does the fact that the City of St. Paul is trying to build "The Pond" across the street from the Xcel mean they are also trying to build the future site of the Minnesota Youth Hockey State Tournament?Glovesreallysmell wrote:G12 wrote:Wow. information highway..... let the district correct the issues before frying them.
I would rather see the smaller city overcome some small obstacles by hard working volunteers that care about youth hockey in Minnesota, then some sellouts to the corporate dollar. go district 16, the people of t.r.f., and the bantam a trny.

Are you telling people that Bemidji, Roseau, Warroad, EGF couldn't handle this tourney?
Fire and Ice, Where did you see that Elliott said that? I don't see it anywhere? He says that they are working on getting the issues resolved and that another venue is being sought to accomodate the fine families of state tournement pariticipants for the banquet. That's what I got out of it anyway. I never saw any mention of Bemidji, Roseau, Warroad or EGF in his comments. That would just be silly. Of course those cities could handle this tourney!!!
