I hate to even think this, but H-M just does not make too many mistakes and will keep this close...

For some reason, I think this game has upset written all over it.

EP is a young team heading to its first state tourney. They remind me quite a bit of Edina two years back, another team that came in highly touted, ended up drawing a less talented but more experienced opponent in the 1st round (Grand Rapids), and going straight to the consolation bracket.

EP is certainly the much stronger team, but Hill has enough coaching and experience that they know exactly what they are doing, and there are a couple of stars still around who can turn a game.

EP needs to shake out the nerves and jump out to an early lead. The longer this one stays close, the more it shifts into Hill's favor.

i agree, this could be the only POSSIBLE upset in the first round... Tyler Zepeda is a game changer and i am taking hill in the OT upset 4-3.

EP 6-1
This one has upset written nowhere on it. Senior leadership from Leddy, McQuillan, and Wolfe puts this one in the bag.

No, but it's the first for anyone on this team. They last went in 2003.

Meanwhile, this is Hill's 4th trip in a row, though the roster is very different from the last few.

I think he means first state tourney for all the players on this team. This is EP's 4th or 5th trip to state, but first for this team. I must mention, though, that all the "super sophomores" won the state bantam tourney the last two years, so they have shown an ability to play under pressure. They also played very well at Mariucci and I think they pull this one out pretty easily.

Check ot who Hill Murray played this year. Whenever they played a team that mattered , they lost.
Obviously EP cant overlook them as the HM veteran players will step up at playoff time....
EP 4 or more...

I believe they beat Stillwater last night, White Bear Lake a few days before and also North St. Paul for good measure.

This will be a very fun game to watch.

You are proving Compton's point. Let's be honest, those teams are slightly above average at best. They haven't beaten anyone that is of much importance.

I don't agree with that.
Edina is pretty good.

That was very early in the year, I don't think they would have much of a chance at all if they played Edina again.

The loss of experience by losing four of the top 5 team scorers earlier in the year will be demise of the Pioneers...

Karl, you are right about the glut of talented 10th graders off last years Bantam Champs in EP, but the rest of the team is heavy senior laden... with Leddy leading the charge at D...

I like EP chances on Thursday...

Your assessment and comparison is off the mark. If you followed the youth ranks, you will know that the seniors on the team played in the State Tournament in Bantams. If memory serves me correctly, they lost to Roseau in the third place game. That same year, Centennial upset favored Edina in the State Championship game.

The Juniors and Sophomores on the team have won state tournaments at the Bantam and Pee Wee levels. The topper is the goalie. EPs goalie is a big game player. To win in the tournament you need a big game goalie. History has shown that over and over. Edina's goalie proved less than worthy. That was their achilles heal and anyone who follows high school hockey knows that.
