STA does double their enrollment to capture the co-ed difference and they are still an A school.

That was a great game to watch but very frustrating to watch as an STA fan. STA came out flat and Mahtomedi was definitely the hungrier of the two teams and capitalized early. Maht's goalie played outstanding and STA had so many scoring chances but could never really seem to crack him. Ben Marshall was really impressive, he is super quick and plays a hybrid style of defense that is kind of hard to explain. He joins nearly every rush. I felt other than the first 10 minutes of the game, STA really controlled the game and the puck despite trailing the whole time. It really hurt STA when they a goal with under a minute to play in the first period and then did the same thing to end the second period. STA had good chances on the power play but Maht's goalie always came up with a big save. I think STA is the better team hot and cold but Mahtomedi is definitely a good team and should do well in state, so good luck to them.

The better team lost. Just a simple case of kids being kids. Any team can beat any other on any given night, especially with a hot goalie. Upset's have been happening since the beginning of time. 7 out of 10 times STA wins. The Z's don't have near the talent that STA does. The goalie played well for Maht., but overall they had no business winning. Congrats to the Z's none the less.
This year's tourney took a turn for the worst as far as i'm concerned. I for one want to see the best talent and the most talented teams compete. I could care less if there Private or not. Alot of jealosy amounst the posters regarding Private schools. That's obvious. Nobody likes a winner.

royaltreatment,
Last night . . . . . . . . . . The better team won. These two teams have played 3 times this year, both team's record against the other is 1-1-1, so I disagree with your 7 out of ten assessment. Mahtomedi was outshot last night, true, but in the 4-4 tie mahtomedi outshot sta 44-33.
If you look at the Suburban Conference scoring you will see that each team has 3 representatives in the top 7 point getters. Mahtomedi has the second leading point getter among all defensemen in the entire state. So I disagree with your statement that mahtomedi has no where near the talent that sta has .
If you are tired of the word "private" let me offer a different word. How does "amalgamated" sound ? Your priv, I mean amalgamated team is comprised of players from many, many different school districts. More often than not, if these players were to return to their respective school districts, they would be the top end players there. Just look at the Elite league. You might have one player from Red Wing, one player from Sartel, one player from Brainerd, then you have 6 players from Hill Murray. And how many players from sta participated in the Elite League ? So where is the parity?
As far as I am concerned this tournament took a turn for the better.
And, if your tired of all the jealous "posters" - stay off the forum
Good Luck in the state tournament Zephyrs !

And some people like to win at all costs.. even if it means playing down
They're not playing down, they're playing where they are assigned to play. This is a fact.oldmansundays123 wrote:Royaltreatment wrote:The better team lost. Just a simple case of kids being kids. Upsets happen even in the pros. Maht won 4-1! No business winning would be a poor penalty call late in the game allowing Maht to break a tie. No turn for the worst.... anytime a "winner" gets beat by a sound team it adds more excitement. And as far as nobody liking a winner, HA... it is more like nobody likes a winner when they are bought, stolen, or otherwise put together in a manner that most see as being not exactly straight up. The Zephyrs come from Maht. and the Cadets come from whoever was unlucky enough to develop the talent and then see that kid turn his back on them.Royaltreatment wrote:The better team lost.
