I never heard the official attendance, but my guess is, between 11,000 and 13,000. (Which was about 3000 people over the limit) That’s when the first game was coming to an end and the second game was going to start.

I agree, they have to find a better way of doing things next year. During the crossover I was sitting in my seat and people were falling onto me because people were trying to go up the aisle and others were trying to go down. They need to find a bigger of a better venue for next year.

well the only place bigger to go would be Xcel...

i got in line at 5:15 and got to my spot on the rail at 6:15. ridiculous. 3 ticket windows open and people out to university avenue, you think they would take a hint.

The trick was to stay in your seat. If you were scouting for seats, you didn't find them.

Also anyone know where all the ticket revenue goes for these section games? And concessions and parking? Maybe if an equitable amount went back to the MSHSL and individual programs they wouldn't have to consider dropping games during the season. Here is a rough but conservative estimate of gross revenue just for last night's games:

Tickets: 11,000 fans x $8 = $88,000
Parking: 4,000 vehicles x $8 = $32,000
Concessions: 11,000 x $5 avg. = $55,000
Total = $175,000

This is just for 2 out of the 8 section final games, then you have all of the other section games leading up to them, plus the State Tournaments...it would seem like hockey should at least pay for itself and they shouldn't be talking about having to cut games.

Don't you think they should have these two sections play on seperate nights. Granted people want to see both games, but just think of the revenue they could pull in for two nights of this quality of hockey.

They should just split them into 2 sessions. Say 4:00 and 8:00 They definitely need to come up with a better system. The lobby at Mariucci was a zoo.

Agreed the same problem tonight at the Coliseum, parents that have sat together all season get spread out all over. I remember WBL vs Cent years ago we stood for the first 2 periods of the second game.

that would make a lot of money and help those budget cuts

but I dont think they would ever do that. they just need to start the ticket line at 4, not 5!

Make it an outdoor classic at Target Field!

Actually, though, perhaps Target Center wouldn't be a bad option for West Metro section finals.

Probably couldn't, as the wrestling tournament is a the X at the same time. I guess maybe Target Center would be an option. Not a great option as they would have to put in ice just for this.

It was announced in the paper at abuot 3 that there were 2000 tickets left. At that point, get up off your couch and get to the campus. I got there and was in line got a ticket, walked aroung the concourse three times talking to people and then found a seat. Saved one for my brother and never left. That is the key.

Marriucci is repsonsible for the ticket sales. They should have had all the windows open and lines formed out the doors, not the back and forth kiddie ride way. Would have been less confusion. I do not know where other people were parking, but I parked at the Oak Street ramp and did not have to pay....

As far as revenue, all the ticket sales are used to pay for the ice time. The section pays the people who do the KEY jobs at the game. Tickets and penalty boxes. All moeny taken from gates will pay the arena for their costs. Concessions goes to the Concessionaires, and parking goes to the ramp or lot. Remember that it does cost a lot of money for the MSHSL for all the events and adverising and payroll. This was just a nice haul, if it was at the X even bigger, but NEVER at the GHETTO CENTER, terrible for hockey. leave it for basketball......

Does the wrestling tourney come close to filling the X? You could do the wrestling at Mariucci or Target Center and use the X for these games. They must have sold at least 15000 tickets for the 2AA and 6AA finals last night as, at the end of the 1st game, the seating was all filled and the mezzanine was full too! They probably could have sold out the X last night for these matchups.

Wrestling brings in a good crowd. I would guess most of the lower boal. That could be moved to Williams arena or the Ghetto center, but if the hockey was at the X, it would cost a lot more.

The problem is that the MSHSL probably uses some of this revenue to fund the other sports that don't even break even when they have events (pretty much any girls' sport).
