#2 South St. Paul vs. #3 Mahtomedi
South St. Paul won both meetings in conference play this year. Can they beat Mahtomedi and move on to the finals?
Re: #2 South St. Paul vs. #3 Mahtomedi
No they cannot. It is hard to beat a team three times and I'll take mahtomedi in this one 4-3. Hope I'm right...State-of-Hockey wrote:South St. Paul won both meetings in conference play this year. Can they beat Mahtomedi and move on to the finals?

South St. Paul beat Mahtomedi three times last year, I think they can do it this year as well. SSP wins 5-3

It should be a great game! Like in most big games ssp success will rely on wilcox. If he comes to play they will be tough to beat. Also I don't like that ssp only beat minnihaha by 1. But I know they will show up for this one.
Mah. On the other had has been playing their best hockey of the year as of late
Bottom line is ssp has a better goalie and defense and mah. Has more offensive fire power
I'll take mah. 4-3 in ot

SSP only beat Minnehaha by 1. Mahtomedi beat St. Paul Academy by 4 - 0. SPA had some quality scoring chances. This was a good game too - certainly not a blow out. Providence Academy took thier game to double overtime. Johnson beat the #1 sead. Apparently the Tri-Metro isn't the door mats everyone has made them out to be all year. Tri-metro teams have been very competitve in the Secion playoffs.

Mahtomedi 4
SSP 1
It was 0-0 with 7 minutes left in the game and mahtomedi got 2 garbage goals then got the 3rd. Zach Palmquist, from SSP, scored with a few minutes left to make it 3-1 but then Mathomedi responded with the 4th. i believe the last goal was an empty netter. I left when there was like 2 minutes left.

Mahtomedi had almost double the shots than SSP; just because it's 0-0 doesn't mean the play wasn't one sided, I was listening on the radio and Mahtomedi sounded like they were controlling this game start to finish. SSP's goalie was hot until the 3rd when he let in a few quick ones. I just thought this game would be high scoring with the action being quite even. But I guess if you go off of score it was an even game until late.Rossbury21 wrote:Well I guess 0-0 for 44 minutes isn't close any moreTheBlizzard wrote:Geez I thought this game would be closer; I was going to go up there and watch it, glad I didn't now.

SSP
If anyone else but Wilcox is in the net last night, its running time!
SSP is average at best without him.
I'm sure he'll move on to play else where after this year.
Some USHL team could use his skills next year.
I don't like kids leaving early, but it is a must for a goalie of his caliber.
Same boat as Lee from Roseau!

SSP had some great chances early and both goalies played well in keeping the score 0-0 for the better part of the game. Shots favored Mh who shot often, and from everywhere, where SSP had fewer shots but played well. This was a very close game until the end IMO.
I thought the difference was # 14 from MH - Marshall. Clearly the best player, he moved the puck out of his zone all night, either himself, or with a good pass. SSP did not have this type of player on their team.
