geographically challanged

Post by BELOW 0 ZERO »

As I did last year, I invite you to draw a line through the center of MN and tell me which side Brainerd falls on. It is North people. I see Denial aint just a river in Egypt. Getta life Duluth fishwrap, we'll play ya at Edna I Murphy or on the lake behind your shack. To call Brainerd southern is just plain stupid.

Edited by: <A HREF=http://p100.ezboard.com/bmnhs.showUserP ... zero>BELOW 0 ZERO at: 12/10/05 1:38 am

It's not like there are a ton of options. You either have the DECC or you have a northern suburb local for the game. I wouldn't think that a rotating location would be very difficult to accept or to justify. If you actually wanted to find a town the was relatively equidistant, it would probably be Hinckly, and I'm not sure the casino has finished construction on their 10000 seat, multi-sport complex yet. Frickin' rotate it and be done. It's not as if northern minnesota is gonna grow a bunch of bigger towns that will somehow tilt the balance of 7AA back and allow for an all northern Section (altho, if Superior seceded from Wisc, Central/Denfeld joined, Marshall opted up and Hermantown opted up, then we could talk!)

Majin

I enjoy the atmosphere at the DECC. The only thing I don't like is the soft ice there and East is at home there. I wonder how much a southern location would hurt the attendance of the semi's or final.

I can't see this being moved south anytime soon. The fact that Elk River is the only southern team to ever play in a section final should tell you the logistics... I can't see the point of a Grand Rapids/Cloquet final (just an example! I'm not saying that's gonna happen this year.) at Aldrich Arena. Until Cambridge, Forest Lake, Andover, and St. Francis start appearing in some of these games, it would be money thrown away moving the game down south.

Also the there is a plan in the works to renovate the arena at the DECC by 2008, which, if completed, would give the section committee another reason to keep it there. The seating capacity at the DECC also gives it a big edge. If I recall correctly, only the Xcel Center, Mariucci Arena, and the National Hockey Center in St. Cloud seat more in the state, and the finals usually sell out.
