Duluth Marshall vs Virginia

Post by 7A0809 »

who wins? why?

I say Marshall, Virginia has no big game players like Marshall. Lustig will choke.

5-1 Marshall

ok..

correct me if i'm wrong, but marshall still hasnt beaten central. They only beat them like 5-2 in the regular season.

If this game happens, there is no way that will be the score.

I'd predict a 4-3 or 4-2 win for virginia right now but with marshall's experience and a talented goalie, ya never know.

Actually, Duluth Marshall beat Duluth Central 9-1... It looks like their offense is firing on all cylinders and are ready to take on the Bluedevils in what looks like it will be a very good semi-final game

Looks like Duluth Marshall is getting hot at the right time. Buckle up for a great game in Hibbing on Saturday.

I'm not ready to call Marshall "hot" after beating Central 9-1. If they can put up 4-5 on Virginia, then I'd be convinced. I've said it before, and I'll say it again- my big problem with this Topper team is defense. I've seen them play a handful of times this year, and I've yet to be impressed with their D-zone play. If they can tighten up in their own zone, while getting solid play from Willie Paul, then I could see them winning 7A.

My prediction for the game:
Virginia 5
Duluth Marshall 4

I think the offense will be there, but a couple breakdowns in their own zone will ultimately lead to the end of Marshall's season.

Alright, my mistake. I thought they were playing tomorrow. Well thats a relief that they almost put up double digits. Who knows. I agree with you Lucia, the fate of their season rests on their defense.

We all know Lustig is only going to give up 1-3 goals which is very good. Willie Paul cannot be giving up 4 or 5 goals if he wants to keep his guys in the game. I'm still sticking with my upset pick of Marshall.

Marshall lost season finale 5-2 to Cathedral. Marshall doesn't have enough depth to go very far, they won't get a return to the X

I think for once, Duluth Marshall will be able to go out and play a game without worries that they must win. Virginia isn't necessarily used to having the target on them and I believe that they won't necessarily know how to handle the pressure in a big game situation. With that being said:

Why DM will win: It will be very tough for DM to stop Westin and Hendrickson, but if the Defense can contain those two then I think than DM will be able to put an offensive threat on Virginia with Mahoney, Kozlak, and Mausolf. Marshall has experience from their top players and it will be these players that will pull through for Marshall. IMO DM has also played a much tougher schedule that has helped season them for playoffs.

Why Virginia will win: Plain and simple, Marshall's Defense and/or Willie Paul don't show up to play (Like much of the year). Westin and Hendrickson have combined for 126 points this season and they will be very tough to stop.

Duluth Marshall-4

Virginia-2

Should be a great game to watch!

Puckranger says Virginia is around 15 or 16 and 1 since Christmas.
That's a pretty good run.
I say they keep it going.

Did you look to see who they were playing. Of course big wins versus Hibbing and Marshall but other than that, Eveleth, Silver Bay,Greenway,Proctor, and Two Harbors. Not exactly tough games so going 15-1 isn't so hard. There playing good and I give them credit and today's game should be outstanding.

4-2 Virginia about 6 left in the 3rd. Big scrum after an incident with willie paul. Some kid from Marshall butt ended westin in the throat.
