Section 5AA

Post by BIGSEXY »

This section has gotten very interesting with the addition of Maple Grove into the mix. Who gets the number 1 seed? Who goes to the tourney from this section?

If Blaine gets by Andover, they will have the conference title and I would assume - unless the section coaches are irrational in their voting - they will be the #1 seed. Bengals, Crimson & Cougars are all talented enough to come out of 5AA...should be some terrific hockey at the fairgrounds March 3rd & 6th.

The section should pan out like this.

#1 Blaine/Centennial
#2 Blaine/Centennial
#3 Maple Grove
#4 Osseo
#5 Champlin Park
#6 Coon Rapids
#7 N. Metro
#8 Irondale

#1 seed could go either way, with Centennial winning and a tie against Blaine. All depends on how hard the Aus cousins hammer each other tomorrow (today). Semi's could be very fun to watch at the Fair Grounds.

With the loss to Osseo last night, I would say the Cougars are in a fight for the #2 seed...chances of a #1 seed are gone. Crimson finished #2 in the conference and had a better record.

I agree, the number 1 seed was in question coming into yesterday's play but with Centennial losing a weak game after the tie against Andover on Thursday there's no way they get the top seed. It will be a big advantage for Blaine having what would appear to be the easier semi matchup. Although Osseo is surging....

if MG gets the #2 seed I cannot wait to see if they can pull the trifecta againts Coon Rapids. Three 10 to 0 wins in one year againts one team, I bet thats never happend.

It doesn't matter where the declawed putty cats from Centennial are seeded in Section 5AA. Based on the formula below the Centennial boys club will be turning in their equipment early.

NC (No Consistency)
+
ND (No Determination)
+
SCD (Swiss Cheese Defense)
+
NO (No Offense)

= Putty Cats (One and Done)

I really dont know what to expect from the Cougers. They beat Osseo 9-1 a month ago and now lose at home 3-1. thats a huge swing.

And then maybe they can lose by 5 to Blaine in the championship for the third time this year!

100% on the seeds. Osseo is going to upset Blaine. Calling it right now.

Not a chance. Blaine will come out flying. They are hungry for their fourth straight title. There's no way that Blaine will let that one slip by.

I agree, too much top end talent for the Bengals. As long as they're healthy coming in to this matchup they will get past the Orioles. The section champ will be one of the top 3 seeds.

The Maple Grove and Centennial seeds are very close but I don't understand why you would be surprised by the Blaine seed. They won the conference title, beat Maple Grove twice by a margin of 10 goals and they tied and lost to Centennial in excellent games. They are the team that has not made the slip-ups that the other teams have made and have the talent and depth to compete in the state tournament.

If Centennial hadn't slipped up this last week they would have been the top seed. However, they did and no longer were deserving. I thought they were deserving of the 2 seed but I also thought it was a toss up between them and Grove. In the end it shouldn't matter how the 2/3 seeds went down anyways. I guess I'm not really sure what you are suprised about here.

I don't know about Blaine. They are shakey. They should have no problem with Irondale but I'm worried about Osseo or even Champlin for that matter (last game Blaine won 1 0). The worst thing that could happen to Blaine is they play MG in the finals. They may be over-confident if that happens. Both games they won by five they were on the power play most of the game. In the last game they had two 5 on 3 power play goals early on. When it was 5 on 5 it was pretty even; I actually thought MG was out playing Blaine. With all that pessimism... Go Blaine!
