I mean hats off to the kid, hes taught to score, i have no problem with that, but leaving a kid out there to the point where he can score 7 times?
well yes, but mankato east is short on numbers and only really have 3 lines so and billiar is extremely talented
East's 3rd line doesn't see that much ice time. The 1st two lines play the majority of the game. Another reason they have a tough time with the top tier teams.

I have been very impressed to hear what the Moose Lake Area team has been doing the past few years and I am glad they are finally getting some recognition. Within the past 6 years atleast 7 players talented players have transferred out of the district to play somewhere else. Now players have decided to stay and play for the school that they should and not who they can pick and choose from. Now the team has broken team, school and even tied state records. Some school records include most wins in a season with currently I believe 17. That is a dramatic inprovement over just three years when the team went 4-20. That school has some real talent but because of such a small progam and no JV team people have written them off. The one senior center Anderson is averaging almost 4 points a game and is from what I hear in on just about every play. With that talent and his size you know that we definately be seeing him at the next level. Congrats to the kids in that program and to the coaching staff at Moose Lake.

the first two lines do take the bulk of the time, but i think this is because they have to to stay competitive.

true. the top two lines do see the bulk of the time but still. And most of billiars goals were rebound and garbage goals so it was obviously a team effort . Taylor Ries of ME had five assists that game, just one short of tying the state record.

yeah, John mayasich told them that he once scored 11 goals, and there is supposedly a player for warroad that scored 12 in 1948

GR3343:
I like how you sign your posts: "Character is who you are when no one is watching" It shows great character to bash kids. Really smooth. Good for the kids, they may never paly another minute of hockey after high school, but they sure had a big night the night they scored 7 goals!! Who said the goals have to be scored against a top 5 AA team? The kid put the puck in the net, that is the name of the game.

Who bashed any kid? Simply stated that it's not such a grand accomplishment or record when achieved against lower tier competition and shouldn't be treated as such. Hey, my mite scored 7pts in a game the other day. Should he be hailed as the next great one? My point was all the records should be relative. Again, great accomplishment, but it's all relative.

I just looked at Greenway's schedule and it appears to include some solid hockey teams/programs with some high scoring individuals. I'm not sure how many players from these quality teams scored 7 goals in a game.

Gotta respect how Mayasich talks. Kind of puts the hyped up scoring efforts into perspective. Too bad some coaches don't have the same attitude as Mayasich and keep playing top players in the final period in blow outs

GR3343: You say it is all "relative". The thread started out just giving a kid a little pat on the back for scoring 7 points in a game. Leave it at that you knucklehead. Good for the kid. I guess then every state record should be "relative" and I guess you, in your infinite wisdom should be annointed as the person who determines relativity of the records. Keep working on that character idea, someday it may work for you.

Exactly. If you read the post this was all that was intended, I wasn't bragging him up as the next 'Gretzky'. Nor have I ever heard of him bragging himself up. In fact when it was thought this might have tied the state record he was very humble when interviewed about it. He stated he knew he was no where near a Mayasich in talent and he gave all the credit to his teammates for the scoring opportunities. He also repeated what I said earlier, that East only has 4 wins and he was just trying to make sure they won the game.

to black ice: i agree with you totally. Billiar is extremely humble and selfless and he would never put his own stats over the team betterment of the team. Obviously, getting a win at mankato east is a big deal so hats off to dan. :D

Black Ice, I am on your side here. I congratulate the boy, that is a great night's work!! GR3343 says it is all "relative" based on who the competition is, etc. I say good for the lad!! He has done something he can be proud of for a very long time.
