From earlier posts, I thought the Falcons had won the State A title... :?

Nice win Albert Lea :!:
After talking with some Falcon parents they have a flu going through thier lockerroom and just did not play well. Thier 3 top scorers weren't feeling well, and the goalie was off.
Can't play great every game. Sometimes it's just not your night, and it wasn't for the Falcons.
Also, even the Albert Lea parents were surprised at how well their goalie played, good for her, another surprise is how bad the officials were both ways, per the AL parent. That was a big game for AL, not so much for the Falcons, they are still guaranteed at least the 3rd seed for sections.
Good win AL, you came to play.

I will agree that the difference in last night's game was goaltending, but I have to disagree that it was a "surprise" how well KH played. I didn't think her play was anything out of the ordinary, she was solid and made the saves she should have made just like she has all year. It's not like she had to stand on her head to keep AL in the game. It's so hard to tell, but I think I heard the shots were 29-24 in favor of Faribo.

I only had 2 issues with the officiating in last night's game.
1. Laziness on the part of the officials in not keeping up with the play.
2. It is not a penalty if 2 players collide and 1 falls down.

I'm not sure how you figure last night's game was a big game for AL?? I didn't get the sense at any time before, during or after the game that either team thought it was anything more than another regular season game. That statement is just wishful thinking. It's not like AL was playing a rival like Austin, West or maybe even Mayo.

Guaranteed a 3rd seed?? Wow! I will say it's likely, but not guaranteed. If I'm the seeding committee I'm going to have a tough time seeding team A ahead of team B if team B just thumped team A late in the season 5-1.

BTW, where are falcons89 and his fan? Just a little conspicuous in their absense  Must be busy crafting excuses   Dang refs!

I watch this thread from afar, but notice often that Falcons89 is ALWAYS cocking off when Faribault wins and rubbing it in the faces of anyone who cares, but it's VERY quiet now. AL beat Fbo by more than the first match up won by Fbo..............interesting. So I quess AL won the series??

My guess is Falcons89 goes on another hiatus until Fbo's next win.

If ever I need to feel wanted, all I have to do is come back to the forum. The love and attention is great. The demand for my insight is always inspiring.
Once again let me take a step that Albert Lea was never able to take. Congratulations on a nice regular season, average, home win. KH, a.k.a. chrismas eve, (still in hiding), I thought played well. I thought the game was sluggish, a little slow, but that made it easier on the slow refs. I will take this loss now, rather than later. This will make us a stronger team. It can sometimes be expected of a young team.
A pleasant surpise to see Twinnesota or the Big T, come out of hiding. I thought RSI was the only person in Albert Lea who cares to exercise his freedom of speech. The rest of Albert Lea are such good little sheep and just follow their shepard. Hopefully he doesn't lead them off the cliff or RSI may be the only man standing.
Nice to see the Rochester YH coaches/parents show up to give their brilliant insight   , on section 1A hockey. Just divide your teams by 2, and come on over. But then again, you may have to actually coach a team, and not rely on pure numbers to win. :P
Seeding this section is going to very interesting. Winning it, will even be more interesting.
Conehead and snipeshow, stick to danceline...... trust me, it is your lifestyle.

Faribault

Post by DmanDad1980 »

Falcon, you sure are full of it, aren't you...

As a young man, I played for a local Faribault rival, and it was a pleasure to continously pound the Falcons through the late 70's in hockey, only to later have a family, and have my kids play for a different city/school and have the same result... pound the Falcons... :D ...

Ahhhh, such are life's pleasures... :D

All needling aside, Falcon, Faribault has a good young team. I had thought before the season that Albert Lea would be the favorite coming out of 1A, then Northfield's surge changed that, and yes, then the Falcons started to play some good hockey of late. With this win, does that say AL is the team to beat, no, quite frankly, it puts the whole 1A picture into flux...

Faribault, Northfield, Red Wing, and AL all have equal shots at going to State...

Good luck to all... and, sorry, but I will continue to provide my "brilliant" insight... :P

Dmandad, I would never want your opinions to go away. Attention to the damage caused, by the poor quality of helments in the 70's, needs to be expressed.

And after talking with some Falcon parents I was quite surprised to also learn that the ENTIRE FB first line played the whole game with broken legs, and the goalie had a torn achilles tendon. And also learned that the score was actually 5-1 FB, but the Faribault parents agreed to let the poor AL girls think they actually pulled off a win...

T that is hilarious. Gave me a good laugh. We in Faribault, congratulate Albert Lea on their regular season home win. My only questions is....T did you get that statement approved by your head coach? or have you too decided to be your own man or woman?  RSI could use a friend. :D

Girls games this week involving Sec 1a, Sec 1AA or Big 9

Maybe these games are not BIG but I bet the kids playing think they are.

My Bets
Tues 2/3
JM 4 Owatonna 3 JM seeks revenge, hopefully Bonapace is healthy and in nets
Mankato West 4 Austin 2 MW is playing well but will take Austin lightly
Northfield 5 Shakopee 3 Northfield seeks revenge
Mayo 8 Mankato East 2 Mayo rolls, backup goalie in nets?

Thurs 2/5
JM 5 Faribo 3 Falcons overconfident
Farmington 3 Northfield 1
Mayo 7 Austin 2
Albert Lea 5 Century 1

edit almost forgot one
Dodge County 6 Red Wing 4 DCs size outmuscles the young Wingers

Question: why isn't Dodge County in the Big 9? They play most of the teams once anyway, right? Is it questionable that they'll always be able to field a team? It looks like this year they're pretty good for that neck of the woods.

The answer is probably that the Big 9 is just plain goofy. There are actually 10 teams and not 9. Rochester used to coop JM/Cent and Mayo/Lourdes. In order to stop the M/L coop from winning the conference the Big 9 chose to not allow AA/AA coops. This effectively forced the breakup of JM/C and the ADs in the Big 9 knew that the M/L co-op would dissolve. The 3 public schools must now stand alone and Lourdes gets moved around as numbers dictate. The JM and Lourdes girls have a nice bond. Dodge County may want nothing to do with Rochester but you'd have to ask coach Gundersen. DC was part of Rochester at the youth level until about 8-10 yrs ago. Coach Gunderson has a strong young team and they seem to do ok as an independent and his "kids" are scoring too. They play JM and Century twice each and they also played Owatonna and Mankato East. No games vs Mank W, Winona, Mayo, Austin, AL or Faribo. Must be falcon fear

Lourdes will be the program to watch down the road. There's lots of future Lourdes girls in the 10U, 12U and city league teams. They have a knack for the "R" word too (look at boys hockey).

Red Wing may be young, but will not be out muscled by anyone, espcially Gundy's Wildcats! :D

Not sure if you have watched a Red Wing game this year Rocket78, but we don't get pushed around by anyone. The young girls on this team or the exception to the rule and welcome physical play.

Why are we talking about Lourdes in the Section 1A thread? The last time I checked there wasn't a Rochester team in the section. :?

Rocket- I think you are off on the NF-Shako game... NF is 2-7 in their last 9 games while Shako is playing as well as anyone in the state- 12-0-2 in theirlast 14. They ahve tied with NF in giving up the fewest goals in the conference and have scored the most goals of any team in the conference. 89 while NF has 60 and Shako has played a much tough schedule. I think it goes 5-1 in favor of Shakopee.

Southside, When Lourdes becomes their own team they will be 1A. Feeling threatened? The thread has been quiet so I thought I'd wake it up but you could go back to sleep now. Have you seen the size of Olson and Rasmussen? Big, strong, fast and they can skate. Enjoy the game.

Threatened by Lourdes, good one!!! Other than basketball, what Lourdes girls team strikes fear in anyone???

And yes I have seen Olson and Rasmussen. Both are great players, but I will take my chances with Rose and the crew any day!

Northfield 1
Shako 4

I wasn't able to see the first period and half of the game. From what I saw I thought Shako dominated the game with Nfld getting bursts from time to time.

Northfield is clearly not playing their best hockey right now. I believe they're on a 5 or 6 game losing streak right now. Their loss to Dodge County Monday night really ruined any lasting confidence. Hopefully they can pull it together for Thursday and get another win out of Farmington. It would be nice for them to get back to their winning style before sections.

Ugh. 2 right and 2 wrong.
Owatonna 8 - JM 2 I don't know if Bonapace played or not.
Mankato W 10 - Austin 3 Looks like West is ready for playoffs
Mayo 8 - Mankato East 1 I was close on my guess for the score
Shakopee 4 - Northfield 1

Where did you get your score from for Mankato West and Austin, check the papers it was
MW 7 Austin 3
Are you correct on the rest of the scores too?

Thanks for the Dodge County plug on the site. This thread group you have in 1A is great some are crazy others are very educated. Now as a coach I do not want to get involved in the who will beat who stuff as we all know in girls hockey any team can beat another on a given night but wanted to respond to the coop statement with rochester. Dodge does have a u12 team but is very young as we have alot of 7,8 and 9 year olds on the team to make a team as our numbers are low. We had the better u12 players go elsewhere such as Roch U12A, and Roch u12B, Inver grove u10A, and squirt A's in dodge with the boys to put these players with like and equal talent to help them improve and not have to play down a level. Our numbers struggle but feel we get quality players not quanity. We should be in class 1A (as we may be next year by the sounds of it) as in our coop we have triton and Pine Island School Districts of this we have not had a girl player from here in years so they may be dropped. All of our Kids are KM 14 1 hayfield and 2 byron. AS far as a conference we have tried to get in several and been denied as they want all of your sports not just one. On playing teams, I have contacted every big 9 coach and AD numerous times to get games but they are full and I thank those that do play us, as an independent i have to schedule all of our games and teams in conferences fill up fast. Believe me I would love to tavel and hour to Austin to play instead of these 3 hour one way trips to worthington. as it stands this year we only have 23 games which sucks for the kids but there are teams out there like Winona whom have room on their schedule but wont play us as they think they have nothing to gain by getting beat by us. As far as the Red Wing game goes I feel they are the Hot team to beat right now and hope we can play with them as they have a ton of team speed and Rose is just awesome. Good luck to all in sections and keep up the threads they help keep the day moving...
