58?? The announcers said that it was around 38-17 going into the OT period. I watched the game and it didn't seem like nearly 60 shots on goal!
shots were 59 to 27 edina according to pointstreak
Right. Here is what my memory recalls.
After
two periods, Bart Archer, one of the MyFoxHockey.com announcers says that the shots are 38 for Edina, 13 for Hopkins. This didn't seem right to me since the shots seemed about even.
Heading into the
overtime period, I recall Archer saying that shots were 38 for Edina and 17 for Hopkins. He said on air that he didn't think that the numbers could be correct, but how could he question the stats crew.
I wasn't really paying attention to the SOG statistic. At the back of my mind -occupied with something else at the time- I thought that that didn't seem right also. How could Edina go through period 3 with no shots on goal when they had clearly scored one goal during that period? Plus, I had seen other shots on goal with my own eyes.
So, yeah, pointstreak says that Edina outshot Hopkins 59 to 27. Edina did put a lot of pressure on Fons in the third so I believe that 19 shots was possible. But, like Archer, the difference between the two teams did not appear to be that great when watching the game.
From my observation, I will say that while Fons was great in goal, the Hopkins forwards and defenders did a fantastic job at stopping the Edina shooters from getting good clear shots on goal. They were back-checking quite well and tying up the shooters out in the area between the faceoff circles.
Anyway, I wasn't recording the shots myself so I have no way of questioning the stats crew. Outstanding game!
