Pointstreak also says Cooper did not start for East. Is there a reason behind this?

East seems to have a habit of making a lot of otherwise unremarkable goalies look amazing.
Which reminds me of certain UMD teams from recent past.

Okay, let me preface my next comments by saying objectivity is difficult for me, especially on the negative side, but I've seen how much talent is on this team and how they can play:

East had plenty of chances. Power play was brutal. They took another step back tonight. What was that Herb Brooks said? "You guys are playing worse every day, and right now, you’re playing like next week."

I don't know what the answer is. They cut the lead to 3-2 and then gave Century a power play with three minutes left. They killed it off, got Jeanetta off the ice and then Tardy took a simply dumb penalty with under a minute to go. No necessity to it at all; it was borne of simple frustration.

Century's goalie play well enough and gave up few rebounds. At times, East played like it was their first game of the season. Dumb passes to nobody. Blind passes landing on a Century player's stick. Crap like that.

Century deserved to win. They played with composure and did exactly what they had to do.

Jesus, our power play needs something and I don't know what it is.

And they need snipers. Either that or put the puck on net and crash the heck out of it. Score ugly if it works. I don't care.

Overshadowing this loss, as was stated on another topic, was Kenny Mellin's injury tonight. It puts this in perspective.

Cooper not playing was planned, to give the sophomore a little experience against a not so good team. Jeanetta actually played well for a sophomore with no experience starting for one of the better programs in MN. The defense turned the puck over some, but I dont think they were in sync because without Arbour playing, all the line pairing got messed with so they didn't have that trust you get from playing with someone for a long time. Kenny Mellin also got cheap shotted from #3 and went head first into the boards and had to be stretchered off. He was moving his body parts however.
The reason Arbour did not play is something I do not want to post or have posted a public board. Hopefully it will be resolved internally without any daage being done. Please do not speculate on what happened, becasue you will be wrong.

Thank you for the perspectives on the East game.

I've sounded a bit like a broken record on here over the past two years, griping about how few shots East seems to put in for how many they take. It looked like they might have had something figured out earlier this season, but that seems to have died since the Schwan Cup. Come to think of it, they haven't played a single good game since the Schwan Cup. There are some outstanding circumstances, of course, but we have to draw the line somewhere.

I can see the reasoning with starting Jeanetta, and also agree that they should have won this game regardless of who was in goal. I'm a bit surprised they didn't switch to Cooper when it became obvious this wasn't going to be easy, but I can understand the reasoning behind that too.

As Lee's said, they need more goals, particularly on the PP. As I doubt several players will magically turn into snipers overnight, I'd advocate the net-crashing strategy. That puts extra pressure on the defense, but you'd think East would be good enough to handle that. Also, have they tried messing around with the PP lines? Might not be a bad idea.

Maybe this was the wake-up call they needed, and if so, better now than in a month. We shall see.

I thought Cooper was in nets for the first two periods (#30) and then Jeanetta (#1) went in for the 3rd.

I thought what I thought the first time I saw East play; 1. They have a great offense. Around 50 shots on goal tonight and most were quality shots. 2. They spend too much time being goons.
Additionally I was really impressed by Jeanetta's playing.

On the other side, Century has some really good defense. They had very little offensive threat, but they were a very good defensive team.

what i saw at the game was east passing around century players like they were cones. Century goalie played very well and east did not capitalize. I did not feel that number 3 cheap shotted him, Mellin lunged and tripped, very unfortunate. If anyone was cheap it was 25, and 7

There were cheap shots the whole game from both teams. It was a very physical game. East likes to rough house for some reason and they chose to do it against a team much bigger than them. It's the part of the game high school players like to brag about being tough about, but is very unfortunate to watch from the stands seeing someone get checked from behind, or even into the boards, and have it not be called.

The Mellin injury, however, was incidental. A bunch of guys were around the puck, and Mellin tripped over a stick. Very unfortunate, but no one's fault. That's hockey.

Not at all. The two Indians keep going around posting that "East is scared to play us" and "the section is WIDE open" and "GR will give East a run for their money"
Wednesday will settle all that.
