yup, Marvin and Nelson play different styles, Nelson is a better hockey player now than Marvin was at this point, no matter the style, he's just better, period.

Comparing Nelson to Oshie as Juniors? Pretty close, Nelson seems to be much more composed on the ice, seems to be a better thinker.

How would you have them? I'm interested to see. You think Crookston should be 6 or 7? Don't let the 3-0 LOW loss to Warroad deceive you, shots were 55-10. And there's no way Park Rapids gets any higher than 7 after tying 1-win Kittson.

I think we have to wait and see what happens when Park Rapids plays LOW and then Crookston again. Park Rapids also plays Kittson again giving them an opportunity to beat them in Hallock.

I see. That applies for the rest of the section as well though; a lot of games to be played. I was merely giving an update to approximately where everyone's at to this point. I think it's almost perfectly accurate.

It's pretty simple; to me anyways...
-Warroad is un-beaten.
-TRF's only loss is to Warroad.
-TRF has beaten Bemidji and Crookston.
-Bemidji has beaten EGF and Crookston.
-EGF has beaten Crookston.
-Crookston has beaten RLF and Park, and stayed with Bemidji, EGF, and TRF some what.
-LOW has beaten KC and RLF
-Park has beaten RLF as well, but tied KC
-RLF has beaten KC but lost to Park
-KC has beaten Bagley
-Bagley has played more section opponents than Walker and neither team has won a game all year.
-It's hard to pick between two win-less teams. I gave the edge to Bagley simply because they've played Kittson and RLF twice and Walker hasn't.

Week of 1/19-1/24

1/20
Kittson Central at Bagley 7-2
Lake of the Woods at Bemidji 5-1
Red Lake Falls at East Grand Forks 6-1

1/22
Thief River Falls at Warroad 4-2
Walker at Kittson Central 6-0

1/23
Lake of the Woods at Red Lake Falls 5-2

1/24
Bagley at Walker 7-6

I think the big question is between LOW and Park Rapids. PR played EGF better than LOW did. 6-4 vs 5-0., it will also be telling when Crookston plays LOW and then match up again with PR.

EGF 9 RLF 5
This one was 1-1 after the 1st. Bad second period for RLF did them in as EGF led 5-1 after 2. Useldinger and Guiteirez each had a hat trick, goaltending was very shaky for both teams tonight.

Which is exactly what the issue is with EGF this year and why they are where they are.

Weak defense and goaltending.

They can play upfront with anybody, but not in their own end.

Ok, I am changing subjects but not starting a new thread. It has to do with Section 8a. WHY do they continue to allow Warroad to host that dang Section Tourny?? IT IS SO FAR AWAY FROM MOST EVERYONE!!! Look at the drive times for teams. (YES, I am sticking up for Park Rapids.) That is an awful drive for them, EGF is far, Bemidji (isn't close to anything and should be AA anyways BUT still a haul) Crookston is a haul. I know they have a beautfiul arena but come on. People want to watch it and don't tell me this doesn't hurt the attendance. If I am wrong on that PLEASE correct me. I usually go to ALL section games when they are in TRF and EGF but I go to 1 when in Warroad, the Champ game. What are your feelings on this?? I realize Warroad has to drive to EGF also, but think about ALL of the other teams.

(I can't get it to post the way I want to. Side is the city and top is where Section is played. 1st number is town to EGF, 2nd number is town to TRF, 3rd number is town to Warroad.)

EGF TRF Warroad
EGF 0 miles 50 miles 142 miles
Warroad 142 miles 85 miles 0 miles
Crookston 26 miles 40 miles 125 miles
Bemidji 114 miles 92 miles 138 miles
LOW 178 miles 121 miles 36 miles
Park Rapids 140 miles 117 miles 185 miles
Red Lake Falls 46 miles 18 miles 111 miles
TRF 50 miles 0 miles 85 miles
Kittson Central 71 miles 63 miles 91 miles
Bagley 87 miles 65 miles 142 miles
Walker 150 miles 127 miles 177 miles
TOTALS 1004 miles 778 miles 1232 miles

Just looks like it doesn't make sense. Maybe for a couple of teams. But then shouldn't Bemidji host it it would help Walker and Bemidji.

The best solution would be to have it at the Ralph every year because of it's location and it's one of the best HS arena's in the country. But that's never going to happen. Until someone builds a new arena, it's going to stay the same. Even after a town like Crookston builds a new arena, it will probably replace EGF. The Gardens will host every third year for many years to come.

boo hoo, the hosting team hasn't won the tournament since warroad in 2003.

Find something else to complain about. no matter where the tournament is PR will get blown out of the water.

SEC 8A THIS YEAR

Post by riverman »

I've heard rumor that the sec 8 committee is trying to make some cost saving measures for the school districts due to the recession and all. they were talking about just canceling the sec 8 a tourney and just sending warroad on down to the excel. anyone else hear this? :?:

Well, then Bemdiji would get screwed, because everyone knows they are going to win. Right, UNS?

i think it pains me to say this but im agreeing with too many things elliot is saying. and ill agree with you that if you had to choose between marvin and nelson it would be nelson hands down. he can do things on the ice that marvin can simply not do.
