Lakeville North (Parents)
Wow, I witnessed a pathetic display of poor sportsmanship from several Lakeville North parents during the Mayo/Lakeville game Saturday night. It was pretty sad. They embarrassed their team and the other parents.
They should have been tossed out of the arena. They were very vocal and obnoxious towards the refs, constantly complaining about the calls or the lack there of and even waiting for the refs to come off the ice after the game. I mean come on - grow some, throw on some stripes (since you have it all figured out) and go sign up to be a ref.
News flash; it's a totally different view from the ice, there will always be good calls, questionable calls, and calls that get missed. Deal with it, if you can't handle it - stay home. Let the coaches coach, the kids play, and the refs ref.... Don't wreck it for the rest of us trying to enjoy the game.

Yeah, Mayo always has the refs on their side, but yet they still usually get more penalties called on them during games then any other team they play... Explain to me how they are on Mayo's side when Mayo usually gets more penalties in a game then the other team.

You are right on with your comments. I was witness to and thought it was over the top.tmacjrgold wrote:Wow, I witnessed a pathetic display of poor sportsmanship from several Lakeville North parents during the Mayo/Lakeville game Saturday night. I love this comment because no one ever says this when Mayo losses a game only if they out play a team and beat them.southernlakes29 wrote:mayo always seems to have the refs on there side so I don't blame the parents. its actually quite simple they may have more penalties than the other team but they should get more than that.. alexander uses his stick for everything and almost never takes the puck away from someone without hooking or slashing them.. and you can have the refs on your side without the measure of penalty min.. there is offsides calls or icings calls that always go their way

thats because mayo never outplays a team when the ref isn't on their side..Visa wrote:

What is the point in arguing about whose side the refs are on? Every ref i've ever talked to does their best to call the game honestly and to the best of their ability, and there will never be evidence to prove that any ref is a "homer" so it is pointless to make accusations that can't be proved. I'd say about 99 % of the time, the team that plays better on a given night comes out with the win, regardless of the refs.

Actually, they have done some research on Major League Umpires and have found a statistically significant difference in the percent of boarderline strike calls given to a player when the ump identifies with a player a certain way. They did it with race, the team that ump cheared for as a kid and the umps current location and all three times, the team or player an ump more identified with got an advantage, so "homerism" definately exists, but it most likely will never really affect the game and you can't prove the accusations against a single ref, but refs and umps in general have been shown to have slight biases that affect their judgement, almost completely subconsciously.HShockey2180 wrote:What is the point in arguing about whose side the refs are on? We might have better refs if people did not chase so many away from the game. Bring your earplugs to a wild game, these parents need a reality check regardless of how bad the ref was.

Nothing is more dissapointing in this great game than parents who act like loud mouth idiots. While it reflects poorly on them they are usually to selfish, arrogant and or ignorant to care. It really hurts their son, team and school. 90% of the "adults" in the stands are gracious and respectful it's the 10% who think that anyone actually cares about thier rants and that they are smarter than everyone else that are the true losers.

coming from a players perspective, i have only been involved in one game where the outcome was ultimatley decided by refs, and they are no longer allowed in our building. Parents that shout at the refs arnt helping their teams cause at all. If anything, those refs being shouted at are going to just get mad and start calling more against your team. Also, everyone on the bench and ice can hear you parents, and you just sound like idiots because half of you dont see the full play.
The officiating wa as bad as I have ever seen. It did not cost North the game nor did it give Mayo the game. However very basic rules were improperly interpreted and applied:
In the 1st with North up 2-0 and a delayed penalty coming on Mayo North was coming down 3 on 1 only to have the play blown dead becaus of the penalty, Mayo never touched let alone gained possesion of the puck. This was the second time that period North had possesion of the puck only for it to be blown dead for a delayed penalty on Mayo
Late in the third with coincidental penalties and North with a pulled goalie Mayo twice iced the puck only to have it waved of because the officials did not realize the reason North had an extra attcker was because the goalie was pulled, they (North) were not up a player due to a penalty.
This is also the same crew that threw Welch out of a game for asking a question. It's one thing to get on a ref about a judgement call and you can for both sides in every hockey game but this crew has problems with rules interpretation which is unacceptable.
The North parents were bad and after what happened at the Rec Center the night before with South parents Lakeville looks bad. The Rec Center had to throw out a South parent for their bad behavior. In the case of both Lakeville teams I thought the parents were bad but the coaching staff were fine they voiced their displeasure but never lost control, never took a penalty, etc.
