Thursday's cancelled games b/c of windchill

Post by HShockey2180 »

Thursday's cancelled games? Rochester public schools cancelled because of windchill, so Mayo vs Albert Lea is off (I assume), any other closings/cancellations?

We'll sticky this topic, considering that there could be a number of cancellations tomorrow night.

Duluth has a wind chill warning in effect until noon Friday.

Rapids vs East canceled. Supposed to get to -60 today. We went to school in -41 today. My legs were numb by the time I walked from my car.

If you know anything about the parking situation near Duluth East, you will understand and sympathize with this comment. :D

Yeah, I walked outside today, and it was cold and very windy. Not too pleasant.

Then I realized that it was 50 degrees colder in Duluth today. :D

32 in Florida? I think you are wrong. I talked to my sister last night and she said it was kinda cold for Florida, but it was 60...

Yea my parents were complaining about how cold it was there at a balmy 60 degrees. It's amazing how quick these transplanted Minnesotans forget about what being cold & freezing really is/was...

It was about 30 in Gainesville where my son lives.
I never thought I would see complaining about the cold on a MN hockey board!

It kind of bugs me how indoor hockey games get cancelled because of wind chill. I understand the dangers with a bus breaking down or something (I'm not even sure if thats one of the main reasons), but it still just doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me. Snow is obviously a different story though.

If it's inside, does anyone care to explain why exactly the game gets cancelled because of wind chill?

Many districts have a policy that says if school is cancelled then all activities are also cancelled. I think that's where most of the cancellations came from.

FWIW Rochester cancelled school for tommorow as well so no Lakeville South/Century game.

I guess I didn't even think of that when posting, I just thought everyone was a bunch of wimps. Funny how that makes total sense to me now haha.
