If Hastings plays tonight as well as they did against Woodbury and Gleisner stands on his head they could pull the upset. They can't allow WBL to get on the board early or it could be a long night for Hastings.
man. i expected more from hastings. tied woodbury...heard they beat roseville? idk if its true but...man this was a blowout! way to go bears! no WBMD on this thread tonight! hahahaha
Hastings couldn't match WBL speed last night and as usual Gleisner faced 28 shots in 2 periods before he was pulled. This kid is a solid goalie (a lot better than his stats show), but with no defense and shots coming from all over, he does his best to make the first save.
Don't give Hastings "the team" too much credit in their quset to upset Woodbury earlier. Hastings was outshot like 52-12. The goalie is the only player Hastings has. If it weren't for him they could easily be 0-12. Hastings is the worst coached unskilled team i have seen in many year's.
I too can not believe the parents, fans in Hastings have not run Welch out of town yet. Even a decent coach should have been able to muster up a goal or 2 especially a coach that has been around as long as Welch.
Any Hastings fans out there willing to comment?
This horse has been beaten to death time and time again.
Anyone know what these current Hastings High School players did in the youth ranks? NOTHING. They were at the bottom of D8 so stop acting like this is some huge disappointment this year. They have a community of 20,000 if that. They enjoyed some success but I don't see them getting to that level for along time. So stop acting like this was a team on its way to STATE. They have done better then expected so far and will come out playing every team hard. Everyone has a bad game and unfortunatly they caught WBL at a real bad time.
Yea, they came out and really "battled" last night didn't they? And on several other occasions this year? Of the 12 games the've played they have lost by 3 or more goals 7 times. Maybe if they got a little coaching at the high school level they may win some games. I'll bet you if you asked the players and coaches at the beginning of the year if they would be satisfied with 3 and 9 and blown out a few times to this point(the season's young) or you told them "they have done better than expected" as you claim. They would stronly disagree.
But i suppose that may be the mentality they have down there now with no leadership. "O'well your doing better than expected boys. We only lost by 9 tonight."??
Y.B, this is what happens when they let you kids out of school for snow days. You get on this site and start talking about things (hockey, sports) you know nothing about. No one said anything about going to state. I just said give credit where credit is due.(the goallie) (not the team) Otherwise keep quiet.

Take a look at the games where they were BLOWN out, Glienser in nets?? the one game he was in for 4 goals they pulled him and the other kid let in 5-6 on 10 shots. Sorry but the best coach in the world isn't going to make-up for the huge lack in talent.
As for the better then expected comment, most had them picked to not win a game this year, but they have played teams tough at times and done better then expected. I bet Woodbury and Roseville would say they were better then expected. They were tied with CDH 3-3 halfway through the 2nd and took Woodbury to OT. Like I stated ran into WBL on the wrong night, just like WBL did with Tonka.
There are a few good players besides the goalie, but they can't do it all themselves. Hastings had an off night, White Bear played great. I feel bad for the kids, it has to be frustrating for them.
Royal treatment, lay off the kid. How do we know you actually know anything about hockey? You claim to but like all of us on here we hide behind made up names. Some people like you take cheap shots at coaches and players while some like to enjoy the site to share info and give each other a hard time. I am a couple of years out of high school but have learned that hiding behind a false name and taking cheap shots at high school coaches is not cool. In fact I would say it is cowardly. I am willing to bet Russ Welch would make you look silly if you were to try and match hockey wits with him.
You should enjoy the site and the people on it. Leave the personal stuff out of it.

Both Royaltreatment and Don Cherry must know something about hockey because they both recognize a solid goaltender when they see one. Jon Gleinser is a very solid goaltender and yes there are some other good players on Hastings but he is for sure the back bone of the team. Could be the reason he is wearing the "C". Gleinser can only hope that Junior scouts see the what Royaltreatment and Don Cherry see. He does have the talent to play at the Junior level.
As for the game last night, WBL was all over Hastings from the start to the finish and never looked back. In the first seven minutes of play WBL had 13 SOG and Hastings had none. The scorekeeper reported 15 SOG at the end of the first when it actually was more like 25 SOG for WBL and 3 SOG for Hastings. With this huge difference in SOG, don't you would think somewhere in the first couple of minutes a coach would have used his timeout to call the team over, regroup, chew some tails, whatever and get the team refocused. In boxing a person is getting pounding the officials steps in and gives the boxer a standing 8 count. It may not have made any difference to call a time out but Hastings for sure needed a standing 8 count in the first 2 minutes of the game. By not calling a timeout, this tells me the coaches heads were not in the game either.
As the 9-0 scored reflected. Not much could be said for the Raiders from Hastings tonight. The forwards couldn't create anything, the defensemen couldn't stay with anyone, and the goalie for the most part couldn't stop anything. Even Gleinser, who has been rock solid this season, let in three shots from the blue line plus three more. The forwards, defense, coach and goalie deserve what they got, please don't single out just one.
Hastings entire coaching staff is a joke, I was at a recent game, and I saw the captain walking into the arena when there was 6 minutes left in the JV game. How is a player supposed to get prepared for a game when he has to get on the ice for warm-ups in 6 minutes? I was amazed by seeing this, so I had to ask one of the players what the deal was, and if they warm up before games. He told me that they are supposed to, but when I asked about the captain, and how he had time to warm up with such little time, he replied that he shows up every game after they warm up so he doesn't have to. I then asked him what the coaches thought about that, and all they do everytime is tell him to show up earlier. If i was coach I would sit him, I don't care if he was sid the kid, he should figure out why he is wearing the C, and show some leadership, but if the coaches are going to let him get away with it, he obviously doesn't see anything wrong with it. Thats my 2 cents. Hastings better find out something quick, or there are going to be more 9-0 games. Can anyone say why they are pulling gleisner after 4-5 goals? I know that is alot for a average tender, but when they are outshooting him like they are, what is he supposed to do. I don't see the logic in pulling the best player on their team. maybe there trying to make him into a defensemen?
Pondhockey-There in lies the problem. No leadership from Welch and his Posse.. Now some would say the whole reason there so bad is they have no talent. I've seen them play.. And with the exception of a couple kids i would agree..
The people in the know down there will tell you, Welch quit caring when his kids were done playing 10 years ago. Typical hockey dad.. Make sure your around so your own kid get's ice time. The only difference here is Welch is at the high school level. Most fathers coach at the youth level only. It's alot harder to get rid of someone at the H.S level, unless you have an AD who has a backbone. Apparently Hastings does not..
He's just collecting a paycheck now.. That again is evidenced by his supporting cast. These coaches are the best they could find?. I highly doubt it.. At one time Hastings did have a rich hockey tradition. It would be nice to see it again, but it won't happen till they get rid of Welch. Sometimes you just need to cut loose the dead weight and move on.

"...and the goalie for the most part couldn't stop anything. " Your assessment of Gleinser's play in net and the reported SOG have one thing in common. They are both way off the mark! Stopping 32 of 39 SOG in two periods doesn't sound like couldn't stop anything to me. You also fail to mention the traffic in front of the net and the tip in on the supposed shots from the blue line. Since when did the blue line move just a couple of feet from the zone face off circle?
