Jefferson does challenge itself, it plays in the lake conference, which is usually the toughest conference in the state. The last two years the lake has been down, and thats not Jefferson's fault. The lake will be on the upswing by next year. As for the Schwanns cup, they were not invited to play this year, however for the better part of the last decade they played in the gold division.
I find it hard to believe that if Jefferson wanted to play in the Schwann's cup that they could not have gotten in. They may have been at a lower level than gold but there are plenty of good teams below the gold level. My guess is that they chose to go somewhere where the competition wasn't as tough.

Playing your regular conference schedule is not challenging yourself...those are assigned games. Challenging yourself is going out to find the best possible competition for games outside your conference. Blaine was undefeated when they took on Edina. Now Blaine's record has a loss on it so it technically isn't as good as Jeffersons but I still have more respect for their team because they went after one of the best teams.

I think Jefferson may be a good team but this thread started with the question of whether they a "scary good team" or is there competition not very good. At this point, I'd say that they have done nothing big winning the games they've won. Being undefeated and choosing to play weaker competition is not 'scary good'.

Your competition does not dictate your ability. Hill-Murray has a weak schedule, but they are still a 'scary good' team. Holy Angels in the last decade has had a weak schedule, but they had had some excellent teams.

As for the Schwanns cup, its INVITE, Jefferson was not invited, trust me they would have loved to play in any division of the cup. Since they werent invited they went up north, I look up to that. Also they do try to play better teams, all they could shedule was scrimmages this year with Edina, and they play Morehead and GR every year, two teams that are good year in and year out. I dont see Blaine traveling up north to play in the holy land of hockey every year.

If I were to see Jefferson have a loss to a weak team, then I would give you some credit and say they are not what the hype says they are, however they are 9-0 and outscored their opponents 54-9, you have to be pretty damn good no matter what metro conference you have played in to do that. And dont forget, scouting doesnt lie. Herbert and company are D1 recruits, gotta be kinda good to go D1 and play in Slovakia dont ya?

Well I kinda always thought the boys in powder blue belonged at the top. What are all the nay-sayers about their weak schedule have to say now that they beat a top 5 team. They may have only beat them by a goal but out shooting EP by close to 25-30 says something right?

Playing a hard schedule during the season gets you ready for the post season and with their section i expect Edina to get the 1 seed leaving Holy Angels and Jefferson to play each other in the semi final. If Jefferson should win this game they would have to play Edina most likely and it will just be too hard for them to play 2 top 10 teams in a row because they wont have to do anything close to that hard the entire season

I take it all back...Jefferson may just be 'scary good'. Congrats on the victory over EP

I'm pretty sure that neither coach wanted to scrimmage a section opponent. Don't blame Edina for backing out. Edina plays a very tough schedule, they aren't afraid of high quality competition.

BTW, when a conference generally doesn't have very many weak teams, the coaches usually like to schedule some easier games so that they can get every player quality minutes and use the games to prepare. Playing in a traditionally high quality conference, such as the Lake, usually dictates how tough the non conference schedule is. The argument that playing in a hard conference is not challenging yourself because the games are assigned is rediculous. It be the same as playing a garbage conference and scheduling tough non-conference games. But I guess that happymama sees one team as challenging themselves and the other as wimping out.
