The only thing I think you misunderstand about my post is that I'm not using their record to say they are a good team, I'm using their records to say they didn't have a tough SOS (probably; get ready for Lee to use PS2 to try to prove me wrong) and had an easy section so getting to state doesn't mean as much. It's like using a school from 1AA and talking about how they get to state every year and using that to say they are an amazing team. Blaine had relatively no competition; the results of their games to get to state and during their season showed it.
Take this year for example. They are 9-1 with one game left on their schedule I would consider tough, and that's against East. Centennial should put up a fight but I don't think offer much. In the section finals they will have to play the winner of MG/Cent to get to state. One tough game. Assuming they make it to state and lose to East they will be 26-2 at the time (my guess) and really not have proven much in the second half of the season IMO.
Disagree if you will, but that is my OPINION.
OK, I will respect your opinion that Centennial is not a tough game.
But may I ask which teams in the state, then, constitute "tough" games? I don't mean this as a criticism, but it seems that your lists of "tough games" and "state powers" are incredibly short.

I won't. When a team is ranked in the top ten in Class AA hockey in Minnesota by every poll and computerized rating system, to say they're not a tough game is being ignorant, either intentionally or otherwise.
Tough games and state powers have different lists. As I have said in other threads, the remaining Schwan's Cup games and the WBL game are the tough games on East's schedule.
The way I am defining a power for the purpose I am using it here is a team that is a quality team, generally speaking, year in and year out. East has many on their schedule, has just happened to catch most of them in a slump, imo.
The other factor you are not considering is the scheduling aspect of what I have said. I did say that if no other factors were involved a game against Blaine or a game against H-town, I would pick Blaine. But if you then consider that H-town is a local team, and the other things I have mentioned, that is where they would get my vote.
In a recent post Lee you commented on how early we are and how rankings cannot be taken very seriously yet. Centennial is a good team, a few very talented players. IMO, East (who they tied) and WBL (who they lost to) have been the only top teams they have played thus far. Their rankings should drop after the new year. I saw them play today and I will see them play tomorrow. I don't think they deserve their high ranking anymore. Guess we'll see what happens in the next couple days.
Anywho, night time, good luck to everyone tomorrow.

Perhaps I'm not being explicit enough in what I'm driving at here.
I'd like to see a list of what you consider to be "state powers" (AA only, please). You can divide them into tiers or whatever you like. I'm just curious.
You've been spending time at the Youth Forum! Mr. Elliott may wish to weigh in on that one.

i was being fecicious(sp) . The outstate communities work hard at putting together good tournaments. To do this it takes committment from teams year after year. Its great that Hermantown goes to trf. They get to see some different teams and different styles of play. If the TC schools want to play the best they can occasionally travel also. All monies do not have to go to the TC. if teams like trf and hermantown get invited to the scwans cup then don't perform well they won't be back. so that means they need to start all over again looking for another holiday tourney. Also the REA and the Huck in TRF are great facilities for this. This tourney also gives the JV teams a tourney. In fact I'm thinking the state tourney should be moved to st cloud or duluth on a rotating basis. Maybe even to Moorhead! just food for thought.

Not the Class AA, but the Class A tournament would be a fun event at the new DECC. Some of the teams would get lost on their way here having never heard of Duluth (Dude, isn't that, like, on the Arctic Circle?) but it's a risk worth taking.
You'ld have to have a larger facility. i think the gardens in warroad holds about 2000 and during a sec 8 final it is normally stacked to the cieling so i would guess a state A final between warroad and let's say a hermantown in duluth would draw 3-4 thousand

I hope that was a joke, because I LOL. Literally.
Anyway, you have to look at it from East's perspective. East plays many out of town teams that are better competition than area teams, no matter how you look at it. I would take Blaine, Minnetonka and Cenntenial over Marshall, Hermantown, and I-Falls any year. Plus, East would have nothing to gain and everything to lose. Not only would they lose road games against tough teams, if they win, well they are AA they SHOULD win, but if they lose...wow they're AA they shouldve won. Now that isn't necessarily right, but its how it would shake out.
I would like to see us play Marshall, because they gets alot of kids that dont like Randolph, or got cut, and no one at East likes Marshall because they can recruit. (more than us... (':- )
But anyways, haven't seen Hermantown play but they seem like they have a good squad and wouldn't be surprised to see them in the hunt for a section championship.
A hermantown vs. east game should not even be argued over because nobody knows the outcome of that game! i would really like to see that game but lets face it i dont think thats gonna happen!
Oh and about the comment east would rather play Blaine, Minnetonka and Cenntenial over hermantown ANY year!!! is that a serious statement! i believe east would have pissed their pants walking into the hermantown in 07!

oh how i hav been waiting to jump in on this bull crap, hmm 98 u say... if memory serves me correct h-town did walk into the d.e.c.c. and DID kick the puppies butts, odd how u cake eaters wont play h-town anymore, then again when randolph says he doesnt want to play any class A teams anymore because it makes his schedule look weak and then goes off and loses to Breck it makes you look really good doesnt it???
its odd when people get tired of hearing of how great Duluth East isnt it? granted they hav a legitimetly good team this year, but 2 say compare the 07 hawks to the 96 hounds would be like comparing tyson to ali, no one would kno who would hav won, altho my nod goes 2 the 07 hawks, finally if we must compare lets juz look at the records, undefeated to not undefeated, yup that settles it... ok maybe not, but then again east has been known to recruit
NOW BACK ONTO TOPIC
i will hav 2 say this hermantown team looks very impressive, a solid offense and a pesky defense that will hav most offenses p.o. by the second period, goaltending is strong, granted not great but strong non the less

Hermantown should be embarrassed to have you as a fan. The worst part? You don't even understand why.

Well since most of us outside of Duluth East don't have the inside scoop, one of the Duluth East wisemen should explain or post a link to another thread which explains. Cause he does have a point, looking at it from one side of the story.
