Who you got? From plain sight it looks like it will be East vs. Cloquet for a run at the X

I'd put Elk River 2nd as of now.Duluth 4 wrote:Who you got? From plain sight it looks like it will be East vs. Cloquet for a run at the X

Re: Section 7AA
I'd agree; they've come out looking pretty good so far. We'll get a more solid answer after the GR/ER meeting down in Edina. Rapids hasn't looked great so far, but if they make some noise in this tourney they could re-enter the picture; we know there's definitely some talent there.east hockey wrote:I'd put Elk River 2nd as of now.Duluth 4 wrote:Who you got? The rest of the south seems to be a mess, and Cloquet is going nowhere right now. East should win this hands-down.

I still don't understand why ER always plays in this tourney. They are pure tragic during it.karl(east) wrote:I'd agree; they've come out looking pretty good so far. East will win it this year. I see GR and ER playing the semis 2 vs. 3 game. East will play Forest Lake or Andover and win 8-1 against either of those teams. GR or ER will get beat by 3-4 goals by East in the final. CEC is having a terrible season, I wouldn't be surprised to see CEC as a 6 or 7 seed this year.

Remember everyone it is very early and in Section 7AA just when you had it figured out something else will happen.

CEC may have just dropped themselves into one of the play-in games with their loss to Cambridge-Isanti. Their section games left are on the road vs. Grand Rapids, Forest Lake, and Andover; and at home against East and Anoka. The only game I can see them winning at this point is possibly the Anoka game. Right now, the are 0-2-1 in section games and could very well finish without a win and get a #8 or #9 seed. If the season ended today, this is how I would seed it:
1-Duluth East (Beat CEC)
2-Elk River (Beat FL, Anoka, and Andover)
3-Andover (Lost to ER)
4-Grand Rapids (Beat FL, tied CEC)
5-Forest Lake (Beat Anoka, lost to ER and GR)
6-Anoka (Lost to FL and ER)
7-Princeton (Beat Cambridge 7-3)
8-Cambridge-Isanti (Beat both CEC and St. Francis)
9-Cloquet (Lost to East and CI, tied GR)
10-St. Francis (Lost to CI)
Long way to go still though...

I know how many people read this board and many know who I am, but these are my thoughts on this section. If they continue playing the way they are, GR will be on the road for either a play in game as the 9 or 10 seed, or a road quarter game, and most likely will not be successful in either. The team is a mess defensively and not cohesive offensively. On defense, outside of #8,#18,#15, they cannot compete. Up front, there just doesn't seem to be enough playmakers and they lose too many battles in the corners. There is a definite size and strength disadvantage with the forwards.
DE will probably walk away with the section, although they will be challenged by Elk River who's better than many thought they were. The rest of the teams probably don't matter a whole lot as this is looking like a two horse race.

I don't know. Rapids didn't look that bad in the Edina tournament, did they? It's possible they could ride Underwood to a top four spot, considering the overall strength of the section. It seems clear to me at this point you have East first, Elk River second, and then toss a bunch of names in the air.GR3343 wrote:I know how many people read this board and many know who I am, but these are my thoughts on this section.
