New PS2 Rankings
Any thoughts? Teams that should be on there, or teams that should be higher or lower.

Not that difficult of a concept right now guys. Hill is 4-0 right now with wins against B-ville, Edina, Sibley and S St Paul. Edina is 4-1 with wins against Buffalo, B-ville, Wayzata and Woodbury. Edina has 4 much higher quality losses and their only loss is to a team as good as Hill Murray, which helps a lot.
Same with why Blaine is so high. No losses and all against pretty good AA teams. A little surprised St Thomas is still up there with who they've played so far.
Also surprised Tonka fell so far ending last year at #4 with a 4-1 record, but that has to do with who they've played thus far as well.
Even through the end of the season they are computer rankings. They take nothing into account except for who you play and how you do (in a nut shell).

4. Centennial - agreed
5. Bloom. Jefferson - agreed
6. Roseau - no way
7. Maple Grove - agreed
8. Duluth East - put'em at 4,5 or 6
9. Eden Prairie - agreed vs edina this week will tell a lot
10. Woodbury - agreed

12. Benilde-St. Margaret's - maybe top 20
13. Wayzata - okay
14. Minnetonka - should be higher

Guys, the last time I checked, last year's results are still included in the PS2 rankings and won't be phased out until later on in the season. That being said I think the rankings look okay for now. We'll know more tomorrow night, but my incredibly biased opinion is that Moorhead and Roseau should be switched.

To answer the "Culver" question, if a Minnesota team is the only team to play a given team outside the state, it is the same as if you played an "average" Minnesota team. By "average", I mean a team with a PS2 rating of 15.00, which is the starting point for each team at the start of the season.
For what it's worth, after their two games with Holy Angels, Culver has a rating of 20.84. This would put them at #9 in Minnesota.

This is correct. By the end of December, each team's rating will be based solely on what they've done this season. It's a gradual process where last year's rating is phased out and the new year's rating is phased in.KnightTime11 wrote:Guys, the last time I checked, last year's results are still included in the PS2 rankings and won't be phased out until later on in the season. I'm in a somewhat jovial mood tonight, my bowling team having clinched the first half title in our league, so the question I have concerns the explanation and FAQ I have linked from the main PS2 page. Question is: What other questions would you like to see included in the FAQ? And "have you ever thought of getting a life?" isn't one of them I'll consider.

Question Ideas:
1. How are out of state teams factored in? (like what you said about Culver)
2. At what point is goal differential nullified? (I remember reading that there is a limit to where beating a team too badly matters)
3. How would the rating be effected if instead of using a goal differential a goal multiplier were used? i.e. Hill Murray's 3-1 win over Edina would be beating them by 3x goals, same as 6-2 or 9-3, instead of by 2 goals that same as 10-8. This would also weight shut outs in some way.
Other Question:
-Could you post the ratings of all non-MN teams who have played MN teams?
-Could you add a column with how the team is doing relative to last week?
Thanks Lee

my point being, no one else plays Culver so there is no way to compair them. Last time I checked the game was played on the ice not on paper. If that was the case go to Culvers site and read the game notes, they think they should have won both games. They play a weak schedule and I don't think they should be that high. Mattson is a nice player.

Wow, way to beat a dead horse. They are in the conference they are in, so be it. Instead of looking at their place only, look at the rating. They ended last year with a 18.90 and are now sitting at a 19.86. Not a huge jump in "one week" which is what it is basically at this point. They beat the #41, #112, escentially #85 team, then played them again when they went up from the win. The computer shows no bias. Chill. Open both last year's final rankings, and this year's first and compare the numbers under the "rating" column. Their number is just compared to other team's ratings.

I reserve the right to answer that question until after tonight's Woodbury @ Stillwater game.TheNightman wrote:The same BSM team who got drubbed by Stillwater 6-2? Does that make Stillwater a top five team then?JV State Champs wrote:Duluth East should be much higher top 3. BSM should also be in the top 10.
