12 points in his first 2 games of the season. 7 goals, 5 assists. How good is this kid?

Lets wait to see if he can do anything against BSM. He did nothing last year against this team. If he can produce against a top 15 team in the state then I might start to think that he is for real.

who did his team play against...

benek is best player on that team but if he went on a lot of other inner city squads he would not be top 3....such as breck, bsm, edina, sta, cdh, eprairie, tgrace, hopkins and many other schools

Benik does play a soft schedual, but the kid is a solid player, put up some pretty good numbers the past 2 years, although it is a weak schedual I believe Delisle and him play in the same conference and posted similar stats last season.

Very true, just stating that he is a very good player but doesn't get much recognition being as he plays at St. Francis

Credit will be given where it is due. Scoring 5 goals against a mediocre team does not make a player good. What does is being able to consistently score and be an effective player against good teams which he has yet to do. I'm not saying he wont do that but until he does his stats don't matter.

joey is a great player but let me tell u cooper has to be one of the worst teams in the state.they would seriously loose to a lot of jv teams

my guess, coming from a small program that gets little recognition as well, when i played, that he is a very good player but has to do a lot of things on his own, meaning when surrounded with other good players and playing against better players his game would have to adjust. which i put money on he'd be able to do.
however has he played any selects things or elite leagues at all>?

I believe that Joey went on to make the final cut of 15 to go to NY as a 15 year old. He followed that up with a big year as a Freshman varsity player. Last year he was hurt for a big part of the season and he didn't have the same talent around him so the numbers weren't there.

He'll put up big numbers this year. How will he do with and aganst top talent? I think OK, but he needs to grow and adapt into the more physical play he'll see as he progresses upward. No different than how most other good players need to progress.

I give credit to him and his family for sticking with the St Francis program. Most other kids in his position would be bailing out to play private or jrs or whatever else.

i would think he would leave for his last year tho. finish this year hard but then head to jrs for next year and maybe the year after that play again and then get picked up by a college team. makes sense? or what?

I would agree that he will head for juniors, or at least i hope so. But who cares who you are playing, 12 points in 2 games?! You have to put the puck in the net no matter what. So i would have to say he is the real deal.

Hats off to Benik for sticking with his buddies and not transferring to a plastic private school team.

benik is a very good player i have played on teams with him and against him on a very big rival team

he has the hands and shot lacks speed but that will come

he does basically run that team on his own he factors in almost every point they score

i know he has done some selects and stuff he is also playing a split season in the mjhl this year

From PrepHockeyNorth.com:
Joey Benik continued on his feverish start to the season, helping to lead the St. Francis Fighting Saints to a 4-0 start after they knocked off St. Paul Academy 6-0 on Saturday. Benik once again had a hand in all of the St. Francis scoring, tallying twice and helping on the other four. Tj Belisle also had a hand in the bulk of the scoring, recording five assists. All six goals came in the second period. Benik now has 19 points (10 goals and 9 assists) in just four games and has had a hand all but three of the Saints 22 goals so far this season.
Benik is on pace for a 120+ point season and is providing almost 90% of his team's offense.

Benik and the Saints

Post by SaintsNetminder »

Benik is a very talented player. he gets most of the points on the team because the varsity team is only running 2 lines so he get's a lot of the ice time. Also he could carry the team but he doesn't do it all himself, his fellow line mates do a lot of work themselves. The team is very young and talented and by the looks of it they have a great season ahead of them with benik at the helm.

last night he had four goals against mora. mora isn't good but he definitely is a skilled player. i don't think st. francis will do too well this year unless he can carry them. they should be able to beat mora by more than 3 goals. it was 2-2 halfway through the 2nd.
