Virginia @ Rapids 12-9-08

Post by 7A0809 »

A big 4 point IRC game at the Civic Center Tuesday. The loser will really be in a tough spot to win the IRC. Who do you think comes out on top?

My thought is Rapids 4-1. Virginia doesnt have much scoring. 2 against Cloquet, 0 against Little Falls. Underwood won't give up much.

I take rapids but in a close one about 4 to 3. Underwood hasn't had the greatest start to the season so far but we know he has it in him he just has to bring it now.

Hopefully Rapids comes out flying instead of waiting for the third period, if they do, 7-3 Orange

Is it to late to predict Virginia gets off to a good start in this one? :oops:

You are correct, I've edited the post above and it has been updated on the website.

Here is some food for thought;

Grand Rapids is a -2 on their powerplay so far this year (0 for 19 with two SH goals allowed). The penalty kill isn't doing much better, bogging in at just 62%.

This either shows that Grand Rapids is nowhere near as good as they have been in the past few years, or that Virginia is playing up to their potential. I have a feeling it's a little bit of both but it's interesting to see a 7A team beat up on a 7AA team a little bit. It is early in the season so there is a long time to get things turned around but GR looks like they need to do it in a hurry or else it could be a long season.

Curious how Virginia looked on defense. I know they posted a shutout, but how do they play defensively?

I can't believe this score. I would have though Underwood would play better than Lustig, but Lustig was unbelievable. Virginia was very well defensively. 37 shots looks like alot, but they did kill 9 power play's. Rapids will be fine, Virginia may be for real or it was just a GR letdown.

I hate to see the Thunderhawks lose but at least it's not an unbearable one. Virginia must have some secret. They are giving up less than two goals a game and they haven't been playing any scrubs, well, besides Wadena Deer Creek that is. The sad part is Wadena scored the most on them this year, and thats three more goals than Rapids could put up. :shock:
