Looks like Roseau really screwed this tournament up. Lakeville South should have been playing in championship vs Fire instead they played on saturday to avoid eagan and fire playing back to back. Now Eagan is playing Fire for championship and Lakeville south is playing stonewall for 3rd. I hope they don't use this same format in Jan.
The reason for the format is to allow more flexibility in scheduling teams to play against a team they don't normally play against. This was accomplished throughout the tournament. Lakeville South is a very good team but lost its last two games. Eagan was the best team over the weekend and won the championship. The Roseau coach wasn't real excited about his 3-0 team playing in the 5th place game, but his team knew what they had to do in game 2 and didn't pull it off. If winning trophies in December/early January is the main purpose you might not like the format of these tournaments. Good luck talking Bill into changing in January. I don't think he should.

the fire was not the best team in this tourney. eagan was the clear top team they out played the fire in the first match up that ended in a tie. the reason the fire and teams like them are so good is there hand picked from all over the state. most association teams probley only have one or two kids that could play AAA it makes a huge diffrence to have 6 of them on the ice all the time!!!! it doesnt mean your sooooooo good. what it means is your a AAA level player and theirs alot of them out their playing association hockey.

I agree.

While it was a bit odd to have the competition switched at the last minute, it was a great tournament! I had never been to Roseau, but it lived up to all expectations as a classic hockey town - great venues, free pasta, accomodating hotel staffs, friendly people, $5 hockey sticks, free ice, and solid teams participating. What do you want?!

Lakeville South was tired but we faltered for other reasons too - including less than stellar goalie performance (I can say that as a goalie dad  ). We've been in two big tourneys, this one and E.P. The results have proved nothing other than this is KID's hockey. Any top 20 team can beat any other top 20 team on a given day.

Lighten up and enjoy the game. It's supposed to be fun.

The last minute switch was no big deal, on this weekend the right two teams played in the final game. I too would like to thank the hockey community in Roseau. First class operation from start to finish. I doubt my son will ever forget playing shinny at the north rink late saturday night. Thank you Roseau, I'm envious of the way your community supports hockey.

Way to take everything I've said out of context.

I'm not making an excuse for a loss at all, please don't put words in my mouth.

I am merely commending the talent of the players on the Fire, considering that they are able to compete, and win with a much smaller player base, and at a younger age than the top A Bantam teams in the state. No one can deny the talent the Fire players have when they are able to beat top A Bantam teams 1-2 years older than they are.
I am a Fire parent and I'm glad to hear that Chaos777 isn't. His or her views don't represent our team. We're not interested in making excuses when we lose nor in diminishing the accomplishments of our opponents.

I wasn't in Roseau this weekend, but here's some of what I heard when the family got home: the championship was a very good game, Eagan is a very deserving champion, the Eagan parents and coaches are first-class, the hospitality in Roseau is awesome, the competition was very good. It sounds to me like we don't have anything to be sour about.

Dismissing as "happenstance" the difference between a win in pool play and a win in the championship game is laughable. Eagan won the game that mattered.

As for the age thing, we knew what we were getting into when we signed up. The only "stupid" thing would be to register for a Bantam A tournament and then cite the age difference after-the-fact.

Thanks to Roseau for a great experience and congratulations to Eagan on their championship.

Roseau Bantam A Tourney

Post by nahc »

Yep, 7 hour drive to Roseau, nasty roads on the way home......but an absolutley GREAT tourney!! EVERY team needs to go to Roseau and see how a host city should run a tourney........what a wonderful town and people!!!!!!

The actual tourney was run very well.........and no 10+ interference penalties per game..........what a breath of fresh air!!!! The kids were allowed to play and heard VERY LITTLE complaints from coaches and spectators concerning the officiating......are you listening D6 and D8 refs.......

I quess looking at my words in front of me. I sound like a jack blank. Sorry for that. I didn't mean it to sound that way. I think you handled it fine. I didn't even have a team in tournament and was following along. Thats how good your tournament is. I just got a little confused when #1 was going against #1 on saturday instead of sunday. For people following at home it would be nice for scores to be posted right away and the teams they are playing. My only complaint. Sorry again for any mis understanding

Thank you. I think if anyone questions class on the fire you just showed it. Good luck to your team the rest of the year.

The tournament was 1st class. The people in Roseau also were 1st class. Eagan tied the Fire 3 to 3 and won 3 to 2. Outshot the Fire by a combined 80 to 20 in the two games,41 to 9 in the 1st game and 39 to 11 in the second. Eagan lost the shootout, if they would of played a 5 minute overtime there is no doubt Eagan would of won the 1st game. But they did not and the Fire prevailed. Eagan beat Stonewall 6 to 2 and Lakeville South lost to Stonewall 6 to 5. It looks like Eagan is getting better. Also number 12 of the Fire is a really good hockey player, well deserved MVP of the tournament.

Shootouts suck. Girly girls claim wins in shootouts.
