Moorhead @ Fargo South 12-02

A Moorhead team not as strong as they have been in the recent past against a top North Dakota team.

As of right now, Id say Fargo South is a top 4 ND team with central grafton and Maybe red river in the mix as well. This is an interesting match up.

I was going to make this thread myself. I'll have to pick Fargo South (homer) over Moorhead. Good to see ND beat MN competition being from ND. We're usually looked past by the 'State of Hockey." South is also very strong this year. To add to the list, they play White Bear on Friday.

Last year we beat South like 7-1 with a slightly better team than we have now, and a younger goalie.

This should be a great border battle, especially in the Urban Plains Center, Moorhead should pull it out though, i think they have finally found a goaltender. This has killed them in the past.

Yes I am, gfhockey.

Moorhead beat South during a severe losing streak last year. They also were playing several players that weren't on their team at the end of the year, for various reasons. On top of that, their goaltender was replaced halfway through the year with Buchholz, who ended up with the best stats in the state of North Dakota with something like a 1.2 GAA and a 94% Save. There previous goalie was, for lack of better terms, a gong show. You could tell at that game too. The first two lines for Fargo South (including 5 defense) all had varsity experience. All their defense as well as their first line of forwards also started during the year. It should be a lot closer than 7-0, which was the score last year.

Moorhead 5
South 1

Anybody know how many times South has beat Moorhead? I can only account for the one a couple years ago.

Disappointing ending in a tie. However, it was the opener for both teams and I think they did well. Both teams have areas to improve on, but it's tough to start off like that.

It looked like Fargo South was gonna run away with it in the beginning. South was working Moorhead during the penalty kill and the power play for the most part (which was a majority of the first period, very physical). However, Moorhead stopped the flood gates by getting an early goal and kept the pressure on. The pressure bounced back and forth for a majority of the rest of the game, the 3rd period a lot like the 2nd. The OT looked very even, no big happenings, but some chances for both teams. Fun game to watch, good luck to both teams on their seasons this year.

White Bear comes down to Fargo on Friday to play Fargo South at the UP Center. On Saturday WBL plays Moorhead.

I didnt see the first half of this game, but the majority of the third and OT was dominated by Moorhead. Fargo South had hardly any offensive threat at all, it seemed like they would panic and just ice the puck whenever they had the chance... however, the South Goalie played extremley well, Moorhead just couldnt finish.... I half to add that the Spud tender played very well too, Trent Johnson also impressed me

The hated tie....

Post by CitiesSpudsGuy »

Both teams started out slowly, but South was better than the Spuds in the first period. The Spuds really dominated the 2nd period until there was just a couple of minutes left in the period and South got several good chances to score when it looked like the Spuds were running out of gas, but Logan Marks came up huge to make some nice saves.

Trent Johnson also had a great chance to win the game early in OT on a breakaway, but just couldn't get the South goalie to blink. The Spuds need to learn how to finish when they get scoring chances and eliminate mistakes defensively.

Marks was the MVP of the game for the Spuds, in my opinion. It'll be interesting to see how he plays against White Bear Lake on Saturday if he's in goal that night.
