Bob Gutsch? Should he still be playing hockey?
Bob Gutsch, #17 - Duluth Marshall, Graduated in 07' then went and played juniors, then fell off the map, wasnt this kid 3rd in the state in scoring for juniors? Last I heard he signed up, and Joined the Army.
I guess my question is, Should he still be playing hockey? his career looked very promising before he quit his junior team.. what do you guys think?

Playing on a line with Jack Connelly will get you points. Not backchecking will make you unsuccessful in Junior Hockey.
There is no shame in joining the army. The world, and the state, is filled with very good hockey players. Gutsch was/is a very good hockey player, but that doesn't guarentee success at the next level.
Best of luck to him with his future.

true but if were talking about junior year you would be wrong. he was on 1st line with Rob Bordson and Kevin Mahoney junior year.LZ94 wrote:Playing on a line with Jack Connelly will get you points. Not backchecking will make you unsuccessful in Junior Hockey.

Bobby Gutsch was my hero and its a shame he isnt playing.
I went to a fight, and a hockey game broke out.
Not to sure having a kid affected his gameplay.. but i do recall hearing that his scholarship to the Air Force academy was taken away because he fathered a child and was not married..
Im not saying joining the Army was a bad move, a great move in fact, just would like to see him still playing hockey..

did you ever see him play? he always played balls out, the kid was like 5' 10 180 and hit people like he 6'4 240, i dont think it was a lack of effort that cut his career short. what ive heard through the grapevine indicates that he and the coach didnt get allong, and yes i believe having a kid indirectly affected his decision because he was playing in the NA when he could have been playing in the USHL, i can only guess he made that decision so he could be closer to his kid. i wonder if things would be different if he had played in the USHL. either way its a shame that he's not playing anymore, i wish him luck in the armyLZ94 wrote:Playing on a line with Jack Connelly will get you points. I don't get at all how anyone can say that bobby got his points because he was on a line with jack. two years ago no one would have said that, and the only reason anyone would say it now is because jack has surprised us all and worked his ass off in juniors and was named rookie of the year and also tied for points leader. jack is a great player dont get me wrong, but two years ago majority of the people thought bob was the better player and would go farther. Very few people know what its like to have a kid in high school, so no one can know why bobby made the decision that he did, but i personally know bob and i know that his kid was not the only reason he quit hockey and joined the army.
