Edina Holiday Tourney Jan 1-3, 2009

Post by joehockey »

Does anyone know who in addition to Edina, Hill Murray and Blaine are playing in this tourney?

Is Grand Rapids coming down again - anyone else from the North? Looks like Bemidji is playiing in Andover Holiday Tourney.

Cretin, BSM, were in last year are they going to be back?

I heard Irondale may have been added - who else?

Possible Field?
Bold = Returning
1) Edina
2) Hill Murray
3) Blaine
4) Grand Rapids/Greenway

5) Hopkins
6) Irondale
7) TBD
8) TBD

I think there may be an issue of having both Roseville and Stillwater in the same tournament. They already play twice in conference and could possibly play against each other in the kaposia and sections so I think this is a good decision for both teams.

I'm pretty sure that the other Edina Holiday Tournament, the Thanksgiving Cake Eater Tournament, will include Breck, Blake and Benilde.

I thought that was part of the charm of the rivalry. Although last year was the first in a while that they were in the same Section.

Not sure how much charm there is in playing one team 4 times in a season. I think most teams try to get into tournaments to play teams other than ones in their conference.

I found the Edina schedule on the Classic Lake website. As for the Holiday Tourney its: Edina, Hopkins, Blaine, Grand Rapids, Duluth East, Hill-Murray, Irondale and Stillwater.

For the entire season, Edina is playing:

Nov 20 (date edited) at Blaine
Nov. 28 Benilde
Nov. 29 either Blake or Breck depending on Nov 28 outcome
Dec. 2 at Stillwater
Dec. 5 Roseau
Dec. 6 Warroad
Dec. 11 Centennial
Dec. 13 at Farmington
Dec. 16 at Wayzata
Dec. 20 Hopkins
Dec. 23 at Roseville
Jan. 1-3 Edina Invitational (3 of the participant teams listed above)
Jan. 6 Cloquet
Jan. 10 at Robbinsdale Armstrong
Jan. 13 Minnetonka
Jan. 17 Grand Rapids
Jan. 20 Wayzata
Jan. 24 at Academy of Holy Angels
Jan. 29 Hill-Murray
Jan. 31 Robbinsdale Armstrong
Feb 3 at Minnetonka
Feb 5 at Hopkins

Conference teams are in bold type.

Wow, tough schedule. If the cake eaters come out on top (as most would predict) they will have defiantly earn it.

The Edina Invitational Tournament has a strong lineup of teams, however, I wouldn't put a lot of value on pre-season rankings. For example, I saw Edina, Centennial and Roseville this past weekend and I would at this time rank Roseville over Edina. Lets just say its going to be a good tournament. Because Edina has a new coach that is still learning about her team I am expecting Edina to struggle a little in the early season. They will win their share of games but because of the new coach and the tough schedule I don't think Edina will start playing well until well into the middle part of the season.

Sounds like Edina doesn't want to wear that #1 target?

Agree though....rankings especially preseason ones are hard to defend. Edina has been most peoples picks to be top team in the State and I would guess most teams will be up when they play them. They have the toughest schedule in the state so will likely take a few hits....but by the end of the year they will be very battle tested! I give them great kudos for the schedule they have planned.

it should be no surprise that Edina has a hard schedule this year, considering that they have had one of the hardest schedules in the state for the past four seasons.

What a field! My prediction: Hopkins vs. Hill Murray for the championship. This would be a great game, but I really can't think of too many poor games whoever matches up. Good job Organizers.

With results from the MG and Edina turkey tournaments - this one now takes on more significance. Hats off to those in Edina who put together these two great tournament fields - Thanksgiving (Top Ranked AA & A teams) the New Years Tournament with a handful of top 5 or 10 AA teams.

Stillwater - Hopkins is a huge match up to open the tournament!

5 of the top 6 teams in the current State rankings are in this tourney. And the other 3 teams look to be solid teams and/or moving up in the rankings. Is it too early to get my seat.

(#1)Hopkins, (#3)Stillwater, (#4)Hill-Murray, (#5)Edina, (#6)Grand Rapids/Greenway, (#9)Irondale, (#13)Blaine, (#17)Duluth

This looks to have the feel (ignoring section assignments) of a mini state tournament. Can we move it to the Xcel?? haha
