Section 1a goalies

Post by tpshockey30 »

Update me on whos playing for each team. I know there are a lot of unknowns out there this year. No more big shot bozos, so who will be the team with the best goalers?

Albert Lea,

They lost both senior goalies from last year due to graduation.

They have two 11th graders this year in the nets. Both didn't see much or any varsity action from last year.

Wrolson and Gjersivk.

Never seen Le Cresent play. AL, if its the JV goalie , I see no Section Championship for AL.

What about:

Northfield

New Prague

West

East

Lourdes

Waseca

Faribault

etc... :)

Bruggeman from West left for Juniors. New Prague and Lourdes both graduated their kids who played last season. Both those teams should be strong upfront but goaltending will be a big question mark this season.

Aaron Dooley will be very strong for Austin. However he takes an abundance of shots on a givin night.

Austin may be a non-factor this year in Section 1A - but when there goalie makes 83 saves on 90 shots I think it's note worthy.

there weren't 83 saves, it was 83 shots on goal total, 76 saves
yes that is fairly noteworthy but many of the shots were put right into his sternum
and if i recall he couldn't find the puck on one save and a faribault player shot it right into his back for a save..

Trautman starts in goal for West. He was the backup for Bruggeman for most of last year. He'll be the IT-Factor for West this year for sure.
But also look for sophomore Kaufman to make an appearance sometime later this season.

well no one really cares about you either, but we don't really like to say it.... Everyone has a chance to prove themselves, don't count any team out..

ok well i agree he should not have said who cares about them but lets be real.. austin gave up 83 shots to fairbault.. its good to be positive but not everyone has a chance realistically

just because you play for a team that is not going to state, does not mean you may have one of the better goalies in the section

I would venture to say that Aaron Dooley from Austin is possibly the best goalie in section 1a. He looked outstanding against faribault when he faced a state record 76 saves. That doesn't say much for the team but man put him on a descent team and the sky is the limit. He single handedly will keep austin from having record setting scoring on them during this year. Believe it or not Austin was actually still in the game against Faribault at the start of the 3rd period and that was after 62 shots the score was 3-0.

Yeah what werethe quality of these shots though? I agree, to stop 76 of 83 is outstanding but lets not jump out of our seats and say the sky is the limit for him.

"what were the quality of the shots?" come on man the kid stopped 76 shots....thats amazing in one game to not give up when your team plays so horribly

credit for keeping them in the game cannot be single handedly given to dooley
yes the kid made 76 saves and yes he didn't give up but it wasn't like he carried the team on his shoulders alone
the score was 0-0 after the first and the austin players kept faribault from getting any good scoring chances by keeping them out of the slot
after that faribault just played balls-out fire-away hockey to rack up all those shots, many of them not necessarily being quality shots
after spending so much time playing defense, the austin team just couldn't keep up any more and got tired and that's when faribault got their good chances
while 76 shots on goal is quite an achievement, there are better goalies in the section who have better save percentages

"Austin goalie Aaron Dooley made 87 saves, one week after making 76 in a loss to Faribault. "

Rochester Century beat Austin 8-0 and had 95 shots on goal. This poor kid is going to face a lot of shots the entire year it looks like.

Wiscbadger what are you talking about? The entire game was played in the defensive zone of Austin. This was not even hockey, it was like playing keep away and Austin was in the middle. The only skate marks at the other end of the ice was the refs to get the iced puck. Kept them out of the slot, THAT'S FUNNY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!. 37 shots in the first period , ya they kept them out of the slot alright. Faribault went where they wanted to when they wanted to. Without Dooley the score would have been in the double digits early in the 2nd period. Yes he did soley keep them in the game by himself and the skill level he portrayed going up and down and side to side during numerous sequences of shots was incredible. This kid should leave after christmas break and jump on a junior team. Two have contacted him already. He has no value to Austin at this point and Austin has no value in him. This team is atrocious. I can't imagine how many shots albert lea and Mayo will put on this team, however we will never know how many as both these coaches will control that later in the game.

Goalies Right?

Post by Washed Up »

This post is about the section 1a goalies not about how we can put down or brag up one player or another.

Mankato West- Goalie looks a little nervous. Gives up a lot of rebounds. Has a backup sophmore that looks solid in warm-ups. Haven't seen him in a varsity game. Saw him last year in a bantam game though. Looks solid.

Rochestor Lourdes- Good goalie, has good defense though. Controls rebounds. Tall and quick watch for him your not gonna get many flukey goals on him.

New Prague-Young Gun. Two goalies competed for the starting position up north. I think the freshman won it. He's small but is very good. His only downfall is his size. Also, he beats himself up. Very unpredictable. Played in a JV game against Hermantown, not sure of exact numbers but let in over 7 goals against JV. Then vs. Lourdes let in 3 goals. Like I said Unpredictable.

Austin-Great goaltender, horrible team. Getting 50+ shots is not out of the question. Game against Fairbault got 83 shots, saved 76. Game against Century 95 shots, saves 87. Those are the only games he's played in that are registered on MN Hockey hub. Save pct of .916

Red Wing-Another good goalie with plenty of action against plenty of good teams (excluding Northfield that is). Good save pct of .916. That is including games against Holy Angels, Lourdes and Breck!

Any other goalies I have yet to see.
Why so Serious?
