3 on 3 cross ice

Post by JoltDelivered »

I had seen alot of posts here and read several articles about cross ice play and was never really a big beleiver. That is until I started watching my squirt level son participating in summer 3 on 3 cross-ice tournaments. Man, are they fun to watch and the kids have an absolute blast playing in that format. The passing, rink awarenss and decision making make huge leaps just in that one weekend.

I would love to see a winter league, possibly at the squirt level. Think it would ever happen? Or are parents bent on having to see "tradional" teams in "tradional" games?

Jolt,
I totally agree with you but the clowns with their faces pressed up against the glass get a little testy when it comes to cross ice play. Although I think folks are now beginning to see the benefit more tha n they did 5 years ago. Been there and done that. It is a great concept get the right folks on board and you will not have any issues with the flak behind the glass. I agree with you totally squirt and mite level...genious move. Let's see more touches with the puck, less room to move, SAG rules apply, learn to protect puck, learn give and go, learn how to play with those around you, easier for young ones to grasp the curve of team play and reduce the ice size for little guys and girls (and far more additional benefits). Full ice for some is like playing on the surface of the moon. Any rink you go to that incorporates SAG and cross ice you see kids engaged, smiling and playing the game. Run with it in your association you will have solid team play in 3 years.
