It's over. I don't think they have much of a shot of winning of winning tonight. La Velle has outlined a few reasons here, but if you ask me (and I realize nobody is), you can take the reason at the bottom of his list and throw it at the top... Blackburn. He can't pitch on the road, and he knows it. He'll be half beaten before he ever gets to the mound.

The only saving grace is that Chicago is throwing John Danks, who the Twins usually hammer. His ERA against the Twins is almost 8 and they have a .350 average against him.

I hate the thought that the Twins would have to win a slugfest against the Sox though.

Don't give up yet Govs, you have been a fan all year and now your throwing in the towel.

Blackburn can do it. Have a little faith.

I'm still a fan, and I'm not necessarily throwing in the towel - they have a chance - but if you look at it, the odds would seem to be heavily stacked against them.

Also, I'm employing a bit of my "life strategy" here. You see, if you set low expectations, it hard to be too disappointed. On the flip side, on the rare occasion when things actually go your way, you're so excited that it's a little overwhelming. For example, I went to Johnson... low expectations, I graduated (and lived), and now look at me! I've finally made the big time... I spend 12 hours a day posting on a high school hockey message board.

It's the only way to live.

similar life experiences, same outlook, eery. Are you my baby brother?
Except I have always blamed the low expectations on so many years of watching the vikings with my Mom. Every time they lost a super bowl, it was like it was just because they represented Minnesota. Minnesota can't win anything. We are always second place, look at the VPs we've had. But those are all a little different era. Govs, you grew up with a winning group of Twins, so, you are blowing my theory for me. It would be nice not to always be waiting for the worst to happen. I think there are drugs that can help with that, and they are actually legal!!!

One game to determine if you play in October.

I think the Twins have a shot.

My response to Lavelle is:

They play like crap on the road but if they can keep the Sox in the park, it will be a game.

This is not just another road game in the middle of a long season. Its for the right to play in the playoffs.

They had the day off yesterday.

They have been playing in front of huge crowds in a pressure cooker atmosphere for 6 straight games. They wont wilt tonight.

The bad weather may help the Twins. I think its harder to hit in bad weather. Since the Twins will be walking and bunting, it may have less effect on their run production than the Sox.

Or they could go down there and get their buttts kicked like they have all season.

Either way, it has been a fun season.

PB you forgot..........
HIT THE BOOFIN BALL! :D

One other thing.......whatever happens! I gotta hand it to you guys to keep these Twins threads going.
Because I'm not big on the game, my participation is limited to wise cracks and such, but I read them all the way thru for the entertainment value (sometimes lack of ) so even if the Twinks don't pull it off...you guys did!

You know who you are!

If they win this, the playoffs should be cake.

It is time to shut up all the critics, and show why you are the better team and that you are ready to win on the road in the playoffs!

I got my popcorn ready

Did GW hack Govs account?

Twins have a definite shot. The day off will help, but not a ton as adrenaline will be flowing on both sides. Danks vs Blackburn is a toss up and I think it will come down to the bullpens.

Twins 5
Sox 3

I like the way you think, only the Twins will slap, bunt and have a bloop and a blast on their way to an 8-5 champagne party. [-o<

Well i don't know, i'm not real confident in the Twins tonight. I'm 90% sure i had the right number picked at 88. I said if the Twins win the division it'll be with 88 wins. I just don't think they'll hit 89.

But then again who knows, i'm with govs and his life theory

Bulletin board material for Nicky B...

Blackburn held the Sox to two runs on eight hits in five innings in that game (last week) and didn't seem to impress White Sox manager Ozzie Guillen all that much.

"Blackburn? I don't give credit to the people who don't deserve credit," Guillen said after the game. "We [didn't] hit in the clutch. He was [not] that good. Believe me, when people throw good against us, I will say so. He was one pitch away [from] being out of there."

On Monday night, Guillen stood by his comments.

"I'll take my chances against him if he pitches the way he pitched last time against us," Guillen said. "He [didn't] pitch well. When you got the bullpen warming up in the second inning, we just [were] not approaching him the right way."

I saw Guillen make those comments about Blackburn. It's one of those things that makes Ozzie who he is but I thought it was disrespectful and I hope those words come back to slap him in the face. As if Blackburn needed any more motivation to have a good night tonight.

Isn't it supposed to be windy tonight? Windy in Chicago who'da thought, but if it's blowing in that has to help the Twins. In addition to Danks poor numbers against the Twins, he's pitching on short rest. The White Sox bullpen better be ready to go.

I'm like Govs, I don't want to get too hyped about this game because the disappointment if they lose is easier to live with but I really want them to win. They've got a chance but it won't be easy.

Life's too short to be conservative. Expect the best for the team and if they come up short, it's been a heck of a run. If they win tonight, who knows where it will end.

Let it all hang out ChrisK.

This is what it's all about.

You can't control it anyways.

In 3.5 hours your heart will be pounding and your guts will be churning just like the rest of us.

Dick Bremer had a good line during the KC game on Sunday during a tight spot when the crowd was quiet and he said " Its hard to cheer when you are holding your breath"

This team gets to you. You cant help it. They are a great bunch of young players.

Beating the boofing Sox and their motor mouth catcher and manager ........................well, it would be Like a Dream Come True

According to a Strib blog entry from the park, it's blowing out to straight center. Nick is going to have to keep the ball down.

Somebody said it on the other thread... run like hell. Force AJ to throw you out, and force Chicago to make some plays on defense. They don't have the ability to either of those things.

There is no doubt that Gardy will be agressive tonight when the situation calls for it.

If the players execute, they got a shot.

There is also no doubt that Balckburn is on a short leash. If balls start flying out , he will be out of there.
