This young man seems to be upset with where he plays but why did he have to quit?
I know that a coach will move a player to another position that he thinks he will do better at I just wonder if that was the case.
Or maybe this boy just thought he was a coach also it was hard to tell from the article?

This reads like a story of a spoiled brat. No matter what organization a player goes to, the coach and upper management calls the shots. Period. Until the youth and young adults of the current generation buy into that, they'll only be rare occasions of success. More often than not, I don't believe you can be successful questioning authority. Whatever the situation is for this team, the players should respect the chain of command.remembertheroar wrote:This young man seems to be upset with where he plays but why did he have to quit?

I disagree, he signed the tender to play for Coach Willett, not this guy. This is the same reason Willett left, the GM does what he wants, who cares what anyone else says(not sayign this kid should have any influence over who makes the team at all). I dont blame the kid at all, happens all the time. The Albert Lea franchise will last one year, maybe 2...its a gong show.GR3343 wrote:This reads like a story of a spoiled brat. I just wonder why if he signed on to play for willett why did he stay after willett quit?
If he would have left when the coach he signed on for that could have opened up a spot for a player that wanted to play on the team.
if I have read these posts correctly there were still tryouts after willett left.
As for the longevity of this team time will tell all I know when money is invested in anything it is for the long haul and that is how it looks here in AL.

GR3343 hit the nail on the head. "This reads like a story of a spoiled brat." I stand by my earlier post. I fail to see any logic whatsoever in his quitting the team due to the fact that he won't get noticed because the team won't be very good. News flash for him, "The scouts are not coming to your living room to see how well you play NHL '08 on your Playstation." This was his best, and most likely only, opportunity to play hockey at a higher level and he let his inflated ego get in the way.
Usually I agree with you GR but I also think you're way off base on this. At some point, as a player or even as an individual, you need to decide what's best for you and the rest of your life. Royce owed this team nothing, he gave an honest effort and gave honest answers as to why he quit, that's being a man. You and others may not agree with his decision but it is and should be his decision. Maybe the kid decided it was time to move on, better now than in October. Why stay in something your hearts not into?GR3343 wrote: This reads like a story of a spoiled brat. No matter what organization a player goes to, the coach and upper management calls the shots. This team has been a Mickey Mouse orginization nearly from the get go, I doubt you'd stay with an employer like that either. The kid is an adult, he has the right to do what's in his best interest, same as you or me. Only time himself will tell if it was a good decision or not, it is a gamble. I'd lay money on getting out now being a good decision though.
I'll buy into some of what you're selling here, but it seems from the article, this kid acted as though he was above all that was going on and wasn't going to subject himself to a mediocre team. That's not necessarily doing what's best for himself, that's being selfish. He was quoted as saying he wouldn't get noticed if his team failed to produce results on the ice. I guess I wouldn't want a teammate like that sitting next to me. If the kid was so distraught at the coaching change, why did he stay as long as he did? I'm still of the old school mind that you play the hand dealt and make the most of it. Perhaps he could have turned some heads by staying and being a leader. Instead, he ran for cover when things didn't go his way.goldy313 wrote:Usually I agree with you GR but I also think you're way off base on this. AL Team
Its really hard to blame the kid here. All I've heard from people close to AL and close to this organization are bad things. Some are really concerned. It is a pretty bad situation when a coach is forced to quit because he cant keep the kids he has drafted and tendered.
Maybe these clowns assembled a good team, who knows, time will tell.

Part of the junior process is to help make men out of boys. This young boy didn't make that step yet. I'm in agreement with the "spoiled brat" scenario. This kid wasn't ready for Junior A Tier II hockey, and he won't do real well at Tier III by his own statements.
AL is better off without him if he said anything close to what was printed.

Your Kiddin' Right!
Royce left becasue he couldnt handle it. I heard the rules on the team are strict. Mandatory Drug Testing, No Hats Backwards, No facial Hair, and more.
Lets face it, he didnt have the talent to play there, ask anyone from Albert Lea, we where amazed that the team tendered him. Probably just a home town token. We knew this was coming, it was just a matter of time. His comments about why are just to save face. If you know the kid at all you can read between the lines in the article. To bad he just couldn't admit the real reason why.
The Thunder will be a better than average team.

The Thunder are NOT going to be very good, sorry but I've watched them, Owatonna, Keni and the Ice Hawks and they are a far fourth.
The team was picked poorly, the coaching is laughable, and the GM is a mess with little to no hockey background.
Royce didn't belong in the NAHL I agree, but he fit in well with the subpar team that the Thunder were putting on the ice.
Don't be shocked to see Royce pop up in Rochester. I could also see him getting traded elsewhere in the NAHL and having a cup of coffee before being sent down or quitting again.
Give it a few months, all you AL backers will see....Zangs isn't much of a hockey coach, nice guy away from the rink though.
Good luck Thunder, you'll need it!

Joke
Quit picking on a kid..... he should get a medal! The team is a joke and wouldn't be able to beat half of the MJHL teams.
The whole administration is crack pots if you listen to the people whom know the truth.

If Crash and Marty know their hockey then the AL team must be really bad because everyone knows that any high school JV team in Minnesota can beat half the MJHL teams.
Granted the administration and coaching of the AL team may be sub par, but the coach and GM don't step out on the ice when the puck drops. You do NOT know these players. You have NOT seen them play. They play a pre season scrimmage game on Saturday the 13th. Until that time any predictions about how they will do are not worth a hill of hockey pucks.

You guys are funny...lol
I guess we'll see and you can eat...crow...I'll be nice

AL will be bad, mostly bad players that can't make most MJHL teams...well at least not the top 2 or 3.
Perkins may not step on the ice but neither should his kid at this level. He should be a second or third liner for the Chicago Force again this year.

Thunder are a good team. New club etc, but will be a contender. Players like the coach.
Express players lack bond with coaches who are at each others throats. Not a good atmosphere already in Owatonna.

Talk about giving into your posters peer pressure when YOU have not even seen this team yet. What a terrible person you are WHEN you rely on facts not even seen by your own eyes.
